Is he expected to strictly be a pocket passer, or will he carry the ball from time to time? I assume he needs to add weight to get that "body armor" that BK talks about.

I haven't heard much in that regard. I've just read from a lot of different people throughout the season that Kizer often looks the most impressive of all the QB's when going through the pass skeleton, hence my beliefs on his potential with his arm-talent/size combo.

It is obvious that he's got the athleticism to escape trouble and burn the backside at unexpected times, but I wouldn't expect him to be used anything close to how Zaire was used against LSU.

Hell, I don't expect Zaire to be used anything close to how Zaire was used against LSU.

Has reached out to many schools, this is just the first one to leak.

Makes perfect sense for him to be doing so... if he doesn't win the starting job, he needs to have a backup plan if he has NFL aspirations. And he'll already have his degree in hand.

I actually think Kizer and Wimbush are more similar to Malik, physically. I think Kizer will be more of a pocket passer but can escape the pocket if he absolutely has too (think Big Ben). I think Wimbush will have the size and running ability of Malik and the arm strength of Golson.

I believe that he'll also consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse.

So you're saying this is a contingency plan *IF* spring doesn't go well, not that he's trying to leave regardless?

I appreciate the sarcasm, but I don't think his projection is too much of a stretch. Wimbush is almost certainly the best QB prospect ND has had since Clausen. He physically projects to what arrowryan said... will he put it all together? Who knows.

Kizer is listed at 6'5 220 right now and will still likely add muscle mass. He is a big boy DeShone Kizer - Hudl and although he throws more in this highlight he ran over people.

You know who could be the big loser out of a Golson transfer? Gunner Kiel. Obviously it's tough to say where he would have been on the depth chart the last two years, especially if he didn't get along with Chuck Martin while he was here, but with Golson out of the picture I wonder if Kiel would have had first crack as the replacement this year instead of Zaire. Kiel's transfer came before Golson's suspension and he possibly could have gotten snaps in a competition with Rees that fall, and he certainly could have been in the mix if he was still on the depth chart for LSU.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course, so there's no way Kiel could have known Golson would get booted for a year, then return and flame out, but thinking Golson had solidified the QB position for the next 3 years is likely what pushed him to Cinci. College football is a fickle mistress.

I don't buy it's "Golson's camp" reaching out to "LSU"

I've transferred and coaches don't talk to other team's players or especially their 'camps'without permission from the current head coach unless you have some friends/family at that school's program and you can back channel in a "hypothetical" fashion. I could see it with South Carolina as he probably knows guys on that roster.

The Times-Picayune is a real newspaper, they said it was Golson, not one of Golson's representatives and then went on to say LSU.... not individuals associated with the program. There are no intermediaries mentioned. The T-P knows the importance of those words.

The facts point to Kelly giving him permission to inquire about the possibility with a list of schools he knows about already.

Now as far as the list goes... I think LSU, Texas and USC are window dressing to boost his image. Why in hell would you go to a school like LSU where your job is to hand the ball to Fournette. He has one chance of getting paid in the NFL / CFL and that's slingin' it.

My money is on him landing at an ECU type program. Though some BiG12 schools might fit.

Yeah, I don't want to get into this too much because I don't think this information is supposed to be for public consumption for obvious reasons. What I'll say is that the day after the Music City Bowl he had already started contacting schools to gauge potential 5th year landing spots should that need arise. And it's not like he's dialed in on LSU... that's not actually one of the first schools his camp reached out to... so it sorta stinks how that article portrays his intentions. I don't have any hard facts here but how it was portrayed to me was that he was gauging interest "if" he decides to transfer for a 5th year... not that it was a "when" situation.

What sucks about this leaking out publicly is that it's just another layer of drama that'll have to be addressed at some point.

It's not about predicting the future for Malik, it's about observing the past for Golson. We know very little about Zaire after "50 career snaps," but we know plenty about Golson after hundreds upon hundreds of career snaps.

Zaire is not the starter right now. No one has the job right now, but that's false according to you. Hence my sarcastic post.

Doesn't surprise me if he is looking. He would do himself a huge favor by transferring versus entering the draft. NFL scouts will say he has nothing but a strong arm going for him right now.

I like EG and think the world of him since he took blame and faced the music straight ahead when he messed up. He just doesn't pass the "Eyeball" test when it comes to the NFL.

Like I was saying... my understanding is that he's gauging possible landing spots IF he has to transfer. And I don't think LSU is close to the top of his list.

I think it's really bush league for that paper to report what they did, how they did, when they did.

Agreed, and since its Notre Dame this will get ran with at some point.

Also, remember that in the wake of his suspension there were several schools he was rumored to be in contact with about a possible transfer. Afterward, he never considered making that move.

Golson may be doing his homework now (just as he may have very briefly following his suspension) and it's the smart move. Doesn't mean he'll necessarily leave. But I know the rumors and schools involved will be exaggerated quite a bit.

I think we can all agree that our quarterback depth is pretty outstanding, to the point where our early season Heisman hopeful is considering transferring and im not even that upset by it. I like golson and how he manned up and came back after his suspension but i wouldn't blame him one bit for exploring his options, I believe Zaire can be the real deal and i am excited to see a larger body of work.

really bad news if true. having a first-year starter and no backups with experience at QB is never a good thing.

Do you think they are making it up? No way. T-P is part of Advance Pubs. They are legit. If you don't see a retraction and apology by tomorrow, it happened and Kelly knew about it.

Furthermore... if Kelly didn't know about this, EG is gone regardless, you don't do that stuff behind the head coach's back.

Guys lets not blow this out of proportion. Nothing has happened that is out of the ordinary. As stated this is exactly what he should be doing, which is testing for interest in case he has to play elsewhere. There's a very real chance Zaire seizes the opportunity and runs with it. At which point Golson, for his own future, needs a back up plan.
