EDIT: Posted in the NFL Draft thread, but Ishaq was just invited to tryout at Giants camp. He hasn't signed an UDFA contract.

Be shocked if he made it being out of football for so long and never doing a damn thing when he played. Looks the part though

Signed a FA with NYG! Made the roster! Way to go Ishaq!

(Heard the Giants defensive staff was pretty impressed. See him as a bit of a project with a high ceiling.)

I understand.

In this case I wonder if it was off the field issues which made for conflict with the ND staff, and precluded a great college career.

Lots of people commented that he was a natural as a defensive end. What if he didn't give it up in practice enough to develop the relationship with the staff, that kind of growth and development of a player requires.

Also, I believe Bobby D was the death of Ishaq's career at ND; Ishaq was so cast in the role of an "outside linebacker," that his true talents as a rush end were never developed. By the time Kelly made enough changes to his staff, it was too late for Gilmore to make a difference. This of course was all with no help from Ishaq. Youngster had a lot of growing up to do; a lot of trauma to overcome.

Hopefully, he is the athletic freak we all thought, and he has his head in the right place!

I wish him well!

Wow. Good for him. I never thought much of him as a player, and he'd been out so long that I figured he had no shot. I hope it works out for him!

Yeeessssss!
I was always a fan of Ishaq, nice to have another Domer on my G'ints.
Remember this kid was a top DE recruit the year we got Lynch and Tuitt. Damn that class had potential.

Physically he looks really good. Can't say I've seen him play yet but his physique seems to have really come along.

Sucks that he never got to play Senior year. I always thought he was poised for a breakout season in that last year. He never fit as a 3-4 LB, he was born to be a 4-3 DE, and he was going to be a starter in BVG's first season. Hopefully he's able to make the roster, sounds like he's doing well.

Just makes me wonder how awful our player development really is.

He never played in he correct position and that was on Diaco. Then he got himself suspended.

Don't think it has anything to do with player development. Just the circumstance for Ishaq.

And you act like him getting promoted from the practice squad, where he still may not see game action, is like home making the probowl.

That's my thinking. For starters he played behind a pretty decent player in Shembo for a few years. Second, he was always playing in the wrong position. He was born to be a 4-3 DE with his hand in the dirt. He would have finally gotten to play that position his senior year, but we know how that went down. I was looking forward to his senior year, I think he could have done very well.

Love seeing this as a Giants fan. Okwara and Ishaq on the line! If only Bennett Jackson had made it in the secondary.

He's on an active roster on a playoff contender. Not pro bowl but not something to bat your eyes at either. NFL teams would find someone better if he wasn't good. I'll stick to my original statement, but you do make good points on him being out of position
