I hope he blows it out of the water, and Studstill gets on the field by virtue of defensive domination.
The good news, he lost like 20-some pounds apparently from last season, so perhaps he's faster? The bad news: every reporter who's seen him in practice says we're in real trouble if he has to play. One podcast said that they think Texas can beat us if we line up in the back with Tranquill and Sebastian.
I firmly believe that no one player, sans QB, can cost you a game. Hell, we could sit in nickel all game and problem solved. It's idiotic of that podcast to think one player at safety could cost us a game.
Great post...I can;'t rep you anymore, but would if I could.I firmly believe that no one player, sans QB, can cost you a game. Hell, we could sit in nickel all game and problem solved. It's idiotic of that podcast to think one player at safety could cost us a game.

The guy is like 29 years old. Hopefully his smarts can outdo his speed
The new Joe Schmidt?
The new Joe Schmidt?
The new Joe Schmidt?
The new Joe Schmidt?
The new Joe Schmidt?
The only way a comment could trigger me any harder is if you said someone was the new Bruce Heggie.
Completely agree. They wouldn't put him back there if they didn't think they could win with him.

Or they have no choice...

I hope this kid comes out and balls out on Sunday. 8 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a pick. And he shuts up everyone on this board.

I sure hope he does but I don't think anyone is being ridiculous in their criticism here. He didn't have "starting S" productivity at Cal, he didn't last year at ND, and for those that have seen him (Spring/Summer) have not been impressed. Again, I hope he does, but this isn't misplaced negativity.
On top of that, we have a DC, that has given the fanbase a lot of reasons to challenge his decision making abilities. Whether that is personnel or scheme. So, I don't see it being unreasonable that folks question this move. Once again, I hope that BVG finally puts out a top 25 defense. I cheer for ND. But that doesn't change the past and how one would evaluate the current decision.
I think the immediate criticism of him is slightly knee jerk. He was a big time recruit and was an honorable mention all pac12 his sophomore year. They expected big things for him before injuries killed him. He has been very unlucky in that regard, even here at ND. Judging his stats from his time before getting to South Bend is pretty tough comsidering he's been hurt pretty much the entire time.
Now his mediocre practice evaluations and injury history should be a concern. That being said, we should be thankful that he chose to pursue a 5th year at ND. His injury last year allowed us a saving grace now, otherwise we would be looking even worse at the position. Kids turn it on sometimes when they get the chance. Look at Kizer for instance, before Malik went down nobody thought he would become the guy he is now. But he got his opportunity. Now Sebastian has his chance and he has been in the system. I hope he gives us a swan song. I doubt he takes the opportunity for granted.
