Damn. It's the right decision for him though, especially if he tweaked it during practice or something. Hopefully he gets the meniscus healed up and kills it at the combine. Can't wait to watch him in the NFL.

We are so f*cked against Stanford's running game it is scary to think about. With Nix in the middle we had a legitimate chance to plug things up.

Question... did he hurt it on the cheap shot by USC? Or was he already banged up before that?

He's said he's been dealing with the tendinitis since the NCG.

As for the torn meniscus, no clue, but the USC game wouldnt surprised me.

I'm so sad to hear that Louis is out for the remainder of the season. He's been a tremendous asset for the team and university on and off the field.

He gone. As he should be. His parents aren't coming up here for the only visit since he's been here unless its his last home game. Playing or not. Enjoy the next level big fella. You deserve it. Thanks for all you've done for the team and this University. You are a true class act.

So sorry to hear this. He is such a good guy.

Man, seals the deal for him and Tuitt for next year. After the Jonas injury, the Kap Injury, and now Nix. So, at least in my opinion it seals the deal.

Even on a worse note, this really sets us up for Stanford running the ball right up the gut on us. With Kona not 100% and Day--not being a true NT, Tony out. We are in trouble against the run without Nix. Now, BYU even looks harder then it was?

Sucks for everybody involved. Good luck Louis.

Wow, bad/bad/bad news.

7-5??? Makes me sick.

The thing I love the most about Louis Nix, besides his hilariousness, is how hard he worked to succeed.

He came in way overweight and ineffective. He could've quit and run back to Florida at any time. Instead? He worked his tail off to get in shape and battled hard every day at one of the toughest/least glorious positions on the field. I'll always have a soft spot for the big Irish Chocolate.

How can anybody say a bad thing about Irish Chocolate. What a great rep for Notre Dame. I am so glad he came here.

Just sad he can't play out his most likely last season.

Good Luck, and thanks for all you did for the Irish Nation.

Gonna be scary on the Dline without him, with freshman and a fragile Kona and Day.

A true ambassador of Notre Dame. Sad that he has to go out this way, but a torn meniscus can be wayyyy too painful to play on. My hats off to him for trying to give it a go.

Best Wishes IC!

One of my top 5 favorite players. Sometimes we don't know about guy's work ethic because we're not around them. But it just oozes out of him. Locker room will be different without him there.

Has to be so frustrating for the poor guy. Hope he has a speedy recovery, and is ready to bang some heads on Sunday at 100% next season.

Man that sucks. Committed when we didn't have a coach, stuck with it when he didn't get on the field and became one of my favorite players.

Whatever he decides, the young man did it all right.

Is is just crazy to think he may come back? I mean, is it basically a foregone conclusion he'll turn? Can one of your guys who know something put a % on it?

If someone said to you in about 6 months you will be a millionaire. The one thing you have to do is not injure that more what would you do..

Get the surgery

I'm only symptomatic every few months and only for a short period of time. Doesn't hold me out from anything. I'll survive for a while. I'm only 26, so I should be able to get another 15 years or so without getting it done.

Please come back, Lou. Please?

Tore mine in high school, had the surgery a few years later. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Definitely worth the few weeks of PT- almost good as new after.

How much does this hurt his draft stock?

I would imagine it depends on the magnitude of the injury and subsequent procedure. Was it just a shaving (likely) of the meniscus or complete removal (unlikely). The former would not affect at all, but the latter could be an issue.

Nah, it wont his draft stock. Meniscus isnt an acl/pcl/etc. Most people never elect to have the surgery the nature of his career field he needed it. His workload, with a torn meniscus/tendonitis, and will only enhance that draft stock in my opinion. Teams see he got double the snaps he did last year, while playing hurt and having a more effective year....thats money in the bank.

But, Lou is what ND is all about. A kid that isnt your typical ND kid..has his ups and down...but in the end took his future in his own hands and matured into a great ambassador for the university.
