His talent and being from the south, this would be a huge pick up for the Irish! Getting Isaac and Jaylon Smith to commit would be 'prime' for the Irish defense!

I could not agree more! Getting Jaylon and Isaac would be huge. Always nice to have playmakers on the defensive side of the ball.

99% sure ND is the school for him. Has to be 100% to commit. Asked about Heuerman committing, he said it only helped.

Just nitpicking here but can we update his rankings:

ESPN: :s::s::s::s: #135 out of 150; 80 rating; #12 DE; Run Defense and Disruptiveness

247: :s::s::s::s: #102 Top 247; 94 rating; #7 SDE

must get in my opinion, him a Jaylon would be the studs of this defensive class. One question though, is there a DT among Rochell, Sherit, or Pagano (seems like the staff wants Pagano at DE instead of DT)

Looks like we aren't looking for a NT this year, no one over 300 being recruited

"Over 300" as a junior is not a baseline requirement for recruiting NTs. ESPN thinks that we are still recruiting several DTs, including Vanderdoes and Latham. Even Munger might come over if OSU doesn't get him. I personally am hoping that now that our O-Line is loaded up, Coach Diaco has the go ahead to approach Latham with the idea that he can play the position that he wants to [DT] at Notre Dame if he comes.

Rochell would/will be a great prize. With Matuska on board, Latham or someone like him would constitute a very impressive set of D-Linemen for this class. We should still be optimistic for a DT. Day, Jones, Okwara last year; Matuska, Rochell, "Latham" this year --- Team Kelly continues to roll out great defensive line potential. Hail to the Chief!!

Only 8 of Rivals Top 30 DTs hit 300. The #1 guy is 290, #2 guys is 250, only 3 of the Top 10 hit 300.

The 2012 DTs were Seniors but only had 13 out of the Top 50 hit 300. Mario Edwards was ranked #1 DT but was only 275.

They have time to fill out with muscle in a Div 1 conditioning program.

We're not looking for a DT, we're looking for a NT.

Nix was over 300 when he was being recruited

We can't recruit a 275 guy and expect him to be 330 in a year

We also shouldn't expect that guy to start as a freshman so getting to 330 in a year shouldn't matter.

We don't even want Lou to weigh as much as he does now, and he has lost weight. You don't need to be over 300 pounds to play NT. 330 is an absurd weight in football. Very few guys can play well with that kind of weight.

You could get a 275lb guy and have him play at 285 the next year. That's really not that absurd. Kona took the lead over Nix and he's under 300 so wherever you're getting this "300 is necessary" rule, it's absurd.

EDIT: Coming back to laugh at my own post where I used the word "absurd" 3 times...someone needs to buy me a thesaurus.

I think PRO NTs are supposed to be over 300. But I hardly doubt its needed for a NT in college.

I'm glad we're looking for a NT and not a DT as we don't play DTs BUT the services don't rank NTs, do they? NTs come from the DT list like Nix did. Hence my reference to the category where they are listed. And I further listed Juniors and Seniors to demonstrate the size difference.

As Old Man Mike, Irishnuke, and I all noted these are juniors not seniors and have more than a year to develop. They probably have two or more years to develop as most freshman NTs aren't "plug and play". It's a new position for most of them and most are used to pushing around high school kids 50 to 80 pounds smaller than they are. Most use bulk not technique. They may have the girth but they don't have the muscle, technique, nor stamina to deal with 21 and 22 year old OLs who have been in D-1 for 4 or 5 years.

Now let's recall it's April in a recruiting cycle year. May Evaluation starts next week. There's a lot of time left between now and NSD to see how kids develop their Senior Year IF they chose to recruit a potential NT.

It's not worth belaboring, especially when guys go high testosterone for no reason, but for the rest of the board just looking for a little added information to put things in perspective: We were recruiting Sheldon Day as a likely NT last year [why the staff didn't take Schutt] and he is not near 300 yet, but knocked people off the line all spring. He was recently plugged in at DE because, I believe, Kelly saw the Lynch thing coming. Kelly, however, said that he would ultimately get ready for both NT and DE.

P.S. I really like what I read about Rochell and would be sky-high if he wants to become Irish.

Well, nothing that you don't already know. This young man is of the highest personal character, and thereby a natural fit for Notre Dame moreso than almost any conceivable football environment. He is extremely well-spoken, humble, but confident. His raising has obviously been superb and his parents would make great additions to the ND Family. His mom, by the way, is from Minnesota so the family knows something about the midwest.

The family is very spiritual, as is Isaac --- in that he reminds me of Manti, an unusually deeply spiritual meditative player, whose spirituality has thrived and been highly respected at the University. Manti's Mormon faith was no barrier to anything for him, as this is Notre Dame. Isaac's brand of Christianity will be no barrier for him either, as Notre Dame's brand of Theological Studies operates at a very high intellectual level which demands thinking rather than rigidity. We're as good as there is in the country.

As to the athletic side of this: Isaac is lengthy, powerful, and FAST --- FAST --- FAST. He ran a 4.7 "40", which is what everyone is looking for in a great DE. He is athletic otherwise, playing basketball as well. I looked at his offer list and that ended the discussion. Not only are the usual suspects there, but also Virginia Tech --- which is always emphasizing speed.

This is an outstanding young man, a made-for-Notre-Dame sort of man, who happens to also be a phenomenal football prospect. Here is a person who will not only succeed on the football field, but get an outstanding and rare educational opportunity, AND be the quality of spokesperson who will shine in front of the cameras.

Extremely well put, and totally agree. This young man is a perfect fit at Notre Dame and he happens to be an extremely gifted athlete.

Hear! Hear!

Long before RKG came in vogue, Rochell would have been described as having the makings for an "ND Man".

Im assuming this means that Isaac didnt tell her a leader... right? because supposedly he is 99% sure ND is the place (meaning we are the leader)? Right? ( I think thats what i read earlier?)

I know we're the leader here, and this may or may not have been addressed but has anyone seen Rochell has his college on facebook listed as Georgia? This could be from before he visited ND, just saw it and was curious
