NOT YET ... maybe soon... but not yet

dboe I like you and all, and I'm not ripping on you in any way. But, but they are essentially an SEC school.

May I ask what, in your opinion, is separating them?

Boosters paying players? Done that.
Players getting arrested frequently? Yep.
Poor academic performances? Mostly, yeah.
Players living like paid mercenaries and completely separated from being a student? Yep.
Pimping said mercenaries out to alumni and fans? Yeah..
Scheduling cupcakes and beating SW Arkansas 70-0 just for the paycheck? Uh huh.
Coaches who cover up and lie about illegal activity? Yes sir.

What is separating them other than the Ohio River?

I'll tell you how they're not like the SEC... they don't win that much.

Wait, what??? That wasn't in italics so you weren't joking, which is crazy because I'd take their years of winning in the past decade in a heartbeat. Think about it: under Tressel they won the past 6 Big 10 titles (one was taken away b/c of santions), they always won double digit games, and their WORST year since 2005 was 10-3. They've fallen short in some of the big games (but also won some as well), but that program has been a winner for the past decade. What ND fan wouldn't take that right now?

Lots of things to bag on with OSU, but winning ain't one of them...

(ugh for me defending OSU)

You forgot, cutting scholarship players to fit more recruits in.

I meant they don't win as much as SEC teams. As in, they don't win against them despite being just as dirty. I know OSU wins a lot, but I view them like I view Oklahoma. Great program that wins a lot of games until they get to the big stage. (Since I was misunderstood before, this means BCS time.)

I'm wondering about how you guys feel about Ezekiel. I'm not really that high on him, he seems to be praised for his speed, but he doesn't look that fast and he lacks the wiggle that's normally needed to be effective in the spread option offense. There's also been rumblings that his competition is very weak. I do like the fact that he can be an effective receiving threat out of the backfield, though.

I had him pegged to ND, and was surprised when he committed to OSU. The general thought was that we'd take 2 RB's, an APB and a power back, but he's been quoted as being told that we were only going to take 1. Who knows though. I was hoping we would pick up David Williams Jr. out of Philly. They play a similar game, but David is more elusive and looks faster.

How do we feel? Are you serious or just trolling?

If you're serious, read through the thread, there's over 200 posts on the subject in chronological order. You'll find comments on your observations and others. Start with this post and read back through the posts to see the latest (post commitment) posts or start from the front and see the interest grow. I'd love to have him where the coaches see him him fitting, if there's space available come NSD. I don't think there will be.

Not trolling, at all. Just thought I'd ask for some opinions, reading 200+ posts is pretty time consuming. Lol. No harm meant.

Well, you know how it goes. When we thought he was Irish, we loved him and his speed and thought he could be a dynamic running back for us. When he committed to OSU, we thought he couldn't be a RB b/c he would get hurt too easily and he really should be a corner LOL.

Most of us though (the rational ones) wanted him and would still like him to flip (there are some who think his recruitment isn't over yet). I'm usually of the opinion that if the coaches like the recruit, and I like his film (I'm a complete amateur of course) then I really want him. In this case, the coaches at ND wanted him more at corner, but would have given him a shot at RB presumably. Meyer sold him as being their featured back, and that was that.

Soooooo......yeah, most of us wanted him and we think you got a good player. We'll see whose coaches are right about his position in the coming years...

I thought his post was fine, you need to calm down bro and be more welcoming instead of acting like NDnation would.

buckeye, I think the consensus was there was Green/Bryant/Ty Isaac on the Tier 1 level of RB, then Ezekiel was on Tier 2. I think most of us wanted Ezekiel plus one of the previous 3 mentioned. However, as his recruiting went on, I think we wanted him more as a CB because ND is severely short on depth at that position. I think he would have been a solid CB, but it seems like he wanted to play RB first and foremost.

I can definitely see why some would feel that way. That was my initial thought when I first learned he committed. I think he got so caught up in the moment of the visit, and he may have had a hard push from the staff to commit or lose your spot, since we have so many offers out to RBs at this time. (That's totally my opinion, not based on anything factual.)

I wouldn't be surprised if he was moved to CB at some point down the line, if he sticks with OSU. We currently have 5 scholarship CB's with 1 incoming. Travis Howard is a senior, Bradley Roby will be draft eligible as a 3rd year sophomore (stud), Adam Griffin was a Tressel gift to Archie he'll never see any meaningful time, Doran Grant redshirted last year, and Tyvis Powell is a freshman who enrolled early but he's 6'3 and doesn't have the hips. We have 1 pure corner coming in with Armani Reeves. Next year, we have Eli Woodard who is a pure corner and Cam Burrows who is already 6'2 195. Many believe he will grow into a saftey. So we need CB's in the worst way, wouldn't surprise me to see him move there, provided his commitment sticks.

Ironic that you say that. I think that was the first thing agreed upon at Irish Envy. Several wondered about the sincerity of a coach promising a player a position he just doesn't fit, just to get him onboard. Then later move him to a position of need above four or five competitors. Six if you count him in the first place. I guess my basis for saying all this is even you didn't see him as having the skills that would be required for runningback!

Honestly I don't think he can play corner at an elite level, which I said before

Theres a reason in his highlight video there's only 3 or 4 plays of him on defense none of which show actual DB technique, Theres a reason we were the only school recruiting him as an ATH, Theres a reason he was surprised when we said he would be an ATH, there's a reason even the OSU has DB issues they aren't recruiting him as an ATH, Theres a reason urban Meyer, who would never lie to a player , said he could be the next Percy harvin

Compared to the last few OSU fans that graced this site, you are a breath of fresh air, no harm. Most of us appreciate the input and will feed the discussion civally. BGIFs bark is worse than his bite.

I liked Elliott a lot and was surprised enough with his OSU verbal to think it may be an April Fools joke (like some others on here).

All reports had ND as the team to beat until Urban and Gene produced the creepy recruiting video ha.. and of course laid down the Percy Harvin promise.

I think the oppurtunity to play RB tipped the scale. No one really knows how these kids will turn out but he's obviously a talented athlete that a number of programs want, including ND. It's not NSD yet.

I felt the same way about the April Fools thing too. Lol.

And honestly, the video was pretty creepy. Archie can't do much wrong in my eyes, but Gene...I guess I don't have to tell you guys about him. His ineptitude speaks for itself.

The only thing that would lead me to believe he would be an adequate CB is his credentials as a hurdler. Those guys have great hips and they're normally strong in the lower body, which makes for a good 'turn & run' guy and tackler. But, as you said, there's not much else to go by in terms of defensive skill other than a couple of plays on a highlight film.

Ohio State's Urban Meyer, AD Gene Smith admit 'secondary' NCAA violations; school reports 46 violations in all sports since last June. Most of them appeared to be pretty trivial. The one that seemed to be the most alarming was the video that the AD and Archie Griffin made for Ezekiel Elliott.
Ohio State's Urban Meyer, AD Gene Smith admit 'secondary' NCAA violations; school reports 46 violations in all sports since last June | cleveland.com

Excerpt from the article relating to Ezekiel's video
Compared to Meyer, there was a bit more to Smith's secondary violation. Smith and Archie Griffin, the CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association, were scheduled to meet football recruit Ezekiel Elliott on his official visit on March 31. When Smith and Griffin were out of town watching the men's basketball team at the Final Four, they recorded video messages for Elliott.

It is an NCAA violation to create videos specifically for recruiting purposes, and both did address Elliott by name in the video. Elliott, by the way, announced his oral commitment to Ohio State the next day.

Smith, Griffin and the football video staff, as part of the violation report, were sent letters reminding them that the compliance office should be consulted before any videos are shown to recruits. Should an athletic director have known better?

OSU spokesman Dan Wallenberg didn't comment specifically on that, but reiterated the secondary nature of the violations.

I accept reps and or vbucks for posting that video on here.

:allhail:

Btw, this was my favorite:

Or even assistant coach Mike Vrabel using smokeless tobacco on the sidelines during football games last season, which was noted and reported to Ohio State by a Columbus-area health teacher, and was a secondary violation of NCAA rules against using tobacco during games or practice.

I'm amazed Gene Smith still has a job. Goes to show you the power of that ND degree.
