Well let's be honest, if he wants to sling the ball around, there is no better conference to do it in than the Big 12(?).

Just going to say that when the current staff got here, they weren't that happy with the way the WRs ran their routes.

Not going to touch the "fatass" subject.

OK maybe fata$$ was a little harsh , buuuuuuuuut JOE PA still ran out on the field at his age. I never saw charlie run out of the tunnel, but I think I saw him roll out one time. Smile or lol. BRIAN KELLY IS A COACH GO BK

Charlie will have success as a head coach, it might not be next year, but he is a brilliant guy, a tireless recruiter and seems to have learned from his mistakes.

His weight has nothing to do with his coaching ability. people who rely on name calling and insulting are usually insecure themselves and only make themselves look dumb. have fun with that.

the man has the offensive mind needed to succeed.. I think and hope he learned that he needs to have a quality defense to be successful as well... Good luck to him and dayne...

Nicely stated.

Charlie has done more for ND football than any of us "pos(t)ers"-and I say that with the mindset he made a positive impact on the team. The guy loves ND!!

I love how people get amnesia..

Based on my understanding...Charlie threw his hat in the ring when no coach who didn't lie on his resume wanted the job....we were in BAD shape...we were basically coming off hiring Holtz's assitant (we should never hire an assistant), hiring a mediocre head coach, being jilted by the guy who called ND his dream job, and another mediocre coach who lied to get the job...WHO were we going to get? I was honestly hoping Holtz would do Mercy run at ND, then Charlie throws himself at the job...I was relieved...he had a reputation at least worthy, even if he never was a head coach...something that would bite him ultimately

However, Charlie restored credibility to the job, and IMHO, breathed life back into recruiting. He made both Davie and Willingham look like idiots on the recruiting trail...killed their excuses. By doing so he made it possible for a guy like BK to think this was a job that could be done. Did he develop defenses...no, did he have a head coach's perspective...no. He lost his job for it...

but I can't figure out how ANYONE could look at Charlie and not thank God we got him...I look at where we could have been... and what the job had been reduced to by the time he took it...man, we owe that guy!

Calling him Fatass raises a chuckle from outsiders and mouth breathers...but I think it shows a lack of understanding of how bad things were...and what he meant to recovery...

I don't spend a ton of time thanking god for 6-6 seasons, but we were headed for more 3-9s than some of you want to admit...

Charlie Weiss had significant nerve damage in his legs from a failed gastric bypass surgeries that almost took his life. So that is probably why he wasn't running it of a tunnel. Just ,y thoughts

I defended BK when people here were bad mouthing him. Where were you guys for that. I never said charlie wasn't a good coach, but I said he wasn't a good head coach. Some of you could only focus on my fat comment. My beef (chuckle) with Weis is that he throws himself in with Bill Parcells and Bill Bellichek as if he was on the same level, and proved he wasn't. You can't consider yourself great just for being in the presence of greatness you consider yourself fortunate. Charlie flashed his rings just like Jimmy Clausen. It takes more than jewelry to win football games. I had a soft spot for Weis believe it or not. He told the players he would make them tough like him, and that the record was not good enough for him or the team. He didn't deliver, but he didn't have a problem taking the money from the school he loved sooo much. I wouldn't do that to people I cared so much about. He also made the comment he knew where his son wasn't going to school. Thats DUMB with the opportunity he would have at ND, but Charlie jr has the millions to fall back on that ND so nicely gave. I never called any posters here names like Dumb, childish among a few ideas so don't fall off your high horse into the lowly depths that I'm in or you will be just as unethical. Thanks for the free psychoanalysis though very helpful.. Glad too see some fight in the fighting irish fans here. GO IRISH

seems to me you may be on a high horse with that statement. You, me and everyone else on this planet would take that money! he entered into a contract in which ND canceled, its not his fault they signed him to a big deal. No one leaves $18 million on the table, especially when its yours.

just own up, you said the same dumb, old, lame, tired crap about charlie we've heard for years, and you got blasted for it because 1. the charlie era is over, get a life. and 2. we're tired of hearing it!

I still love ya like a brother cuz you're irish but how about we let this dead horse lie.

Ianello also coached Kamara to a record breaking freshman year. Then coach Floyd breaking Kamara's record. As I recall Stovall and McKnight also caught a lot of passes under Ianello's guidance.

At Wisconsin he converted a backup QB into a TE who became a 4th Round NFL Draft choice and a Pro Bowler.

At Arizona he developed a pair of All Pac 10 WRs.


Ianello has also been recognized as a top recruiter at every place he's been an Recruiting Coordinator by Rivals, ESPN, and Lemming. Recruiting Coordinator is a significant part of his coaching duties. He had what, 4 Top 15 Recruiting Classes in his 4 recruiting seasons at ND?

You really think Ianello was a good WR coach? His WRs could never block, and it severely hurt our running game. Golden Tate was a flat out playmaker. The guy could make plays with or without coaching. He could never run his routes very well. In fact none of the WRs ran routes with precision. Michael Floyd was a 5 star stud coming out of high school. I don't think Ianello's coaching affected how good he was. Floyd was a beast from the start.

He coached Kamara to a record breaking freshman season? What was the team's record that year? And what did Kamara do after that?

I never said Ianello was a bad recruiter. I said he was an awful WR coach, and I still stand by that statement.

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Notre Dame tight end Mike Ragone has signed a grant-in-aid form to complete his transfer to Kansas, where he will be reunited with former coach Charlie Weis.

Ragone has completed his undergraduate degree and will be eligible to play for the Jayhawks immediately. He joins quarterback Dayne Crist and linebacker Anthony McDonald as former Irish players who will finish their college careers in Lawrence.

Weis recruited all three players to Notre Dame while he was the head coach in South Bend. He was fired in 2009 and hired by Kansas last fall to replace Turner Gill.

Ragone was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA after missing the 2008 season and most of last season with knee injuries. He played in 37 games at Notre Dame. He is the sixth Division I transfer to join the Kansas program since Weis was hired.

There were a lot of things wrong with last year's 2-10 Kansas team. It was worst in the nation in total defense, scoring defense and among the worst in passing offense and total offense.
And on Thursday, new head coach Charlie Weis also informed his team that it's pretty terrible at celebrating as well.
During the final 10 minutes of practice, Weis sent kicker Ron Doherty to make a "game-winning" field goal. The kick was up and the Kansas players came streaming in from the sidelines. Unfortunately, the kick missed. The team had to go back to the sideline and Doherty tried again. This time, he made the kick and the team came streaming onto the field to congratulate him.
And that's where Weis lost it.

I watched a lot of KU football last year. Trust me, there wasn't much to celebrate. You can forgive a team for being rusty...

cool vid! Always liked charlie, and this is the kind of stuff you have to do in order to keep college kids motivated. Brain Kelly did the same kind of thing for a special teams drill in the practice I attended, the players that werent participating in the drill were told to get fired up and cheer on the guys participating.

as always wish charlie, dayne, anthony and mike a great season and hopefully future careers in football

What? Why? I'm happy with Kelly, but on a personal level I like Charlie and want him to do well. But aside from all that, what was your issue with this? From my experience being on teams and coaching them, I believe you need to have some fun some times, and there are probably psychological benefits to doing something like this, as well. Even if you don't believe in fun or psychological benefits, where is the harm in it?

sounds like CW's going after his old friend, mr. 13 college-tranfers: Chris Martin. two years of eligibility left starting in '13. guess Weis is trying to 'fix' their prior relationship. good luck with that hot mess...

watching this KU/La. Tech game ... and it is uuuuuugly. Two coaches who I am really rooting for but who have really been taking it in the teeth the last few years -- and who don't seem to have whipped their new teams into shape just yet.
