Someone told me that it was going around somewhere that M (boosters/alum) were having problems in this years recruiting process. Said they saw it on something ESPN. I'm thinking it was really an NDNation blog thing.

They had a problem with how the class was being assembled or they were part of the problem?

It's not odd. There were rumors emanating from the Michigan boards that he committed this weekend.

Haven't heard anything in regards to Isaac, but I did hear a rumor about possible violations at Michigan regarding a '13 recruit (one that recently committed (not Isaac)). Not sure if it was high school kids exaggerating / trying to impress other kids, or it was actually true. Has anyone heard of any other cases. I am inclined to think it was just an attempt to impress others, but it may explain UM's hot start.

So, I wouldn't be too surprised if he did end up committing to UM, maybe not immediately though.

Um...the "possible violation" that high school kids were talking about was most likely that idiotic violation that ESPN reported last week, stemming from players on the football tweeting a recruit that recently committed to congratulate him. Technically, and ridiculously, that is a violation. I wouldn't get too excited about it, though. It is an utterly meaningless "violation" and nothing is going to come of it.

Bog, I love you, man. But could you translate this to English for me? Sorry bud. Not trying to be a jerk, but I'm curious what the rumor is that you heard, and I can't figure it out from your post.

Sorry, I should have specified, but it was not related to " tweeting" . I don't want to provide specifics as I have no credible evidence of anything. If you are interested feel free to send a pm.

Rumblings were coming from OSU rivals board. Guess they heard something and panicked or jumped the gun. Probably just a matter of time though.

Two people have now told me that Michigan Alums/boosters have had their hand in the pot, something that would be a violation. I don't believe that stuff till I see the NCAA acting on it. So I don't listen to the details. My mind cannot stretch around everything I hear, like you know man . . .

But coincidentally, my sources that are fifty per cent right, half the time, swear it is so. And someone else said it here. I was just noting it seemed more than coincidence.

If Michigan got hit with recruiting sanctions that would make my year. That being said, I think Ty's thread has been muddied enough with truly unsubstantiated rumors. Time to move to another thread or simply move on until we see a real report..

ESPN Insider

College Football Rumors - Rumor Central - NCAA - ESPN

Overall scenario:

Michigan is looking at 3 RBs. Shallman is already committed, Ty is on their radar, and Deveon Smith is visiting this weekend.

Analyst doesn't see all 3 RBs going to Michigan so it will be a first come first serve basis. He says that Smith could commit before he goes home, so that could leave Ty "out in the cold". But Ty was just there last week and he knows what's going on up there and he still didn't commit (positive sign).

So if Smith commits, that will knock one top school out of contention for Ty presumeably.

I just don't think Smith or Isaac would want to be the third back. That means it's first come, first served. This could be an interesting week, since Isaac is aware of the situation, and we'll see how that plays out."

......another story with the other RBs Michigan has offered - Justin Davis, Derrick Green, and Jordan Wilkins

Michigan would take both Smith and Isaac but the rumor is that they both want to be the only true RB. If Smith commits to UM then Isaac won't want to go there and visa versa, or so they say.

This may sound encouraging but keep in mind if he wants to be the only rB wherever he chooses and we pick up someone like Ezekiel Elliott that could hurt our chances too.

This is all just speculation though.

I could be wrong but I believe we are recruiting Elliott as an athlete with perhaps even more of an emphasis on him being a DB.

IMO Elliott commits on his visit or soon after. Maybe we could tell him Elliott will play slot? He does have good hands it appears.

Then tell Isaac if he is wanting to be the only RB, come in and be that. Prove you can be an all down back (which I think he can) and the rest will split most reps at slot.

All that in some sort of BK fashion. I just think I am a genius. After all, I would have landed coach Saban as my equipment manager Im so good!

I recall reading the same thing. I think if both come to ND, that is precisely what happens w Elliot going to DB.

I don't think Elliot will really want to play anything but running back

I think either Michigan or ND breaks the policy they have employed and deal with it afterwards

DeVeon Smith committed to UM yesterday per his 247 profile. Encouraging at the very least. At best makes Isaac a two team race.

Is Hoke leaning towards pulling a Saban? Could he possibly keep pushing for guys like Isaac or, say, Pocic and then have lesser rated players "decommit" if he gets them? Would he do that? I don't think he would, but I'm not sure what his endgame is here.

I'm just a bit curious about this recruiting strategy as he already has 16 commits and has, by all accounts, filled up at two positions where he's leaving really good players on the board that had Michigan in their top group.

It is certainly a reasonable theory. They have 16 and should take 20-22. The remaining spots look like they need to be filled with 3 - 4 DL a WR and possibly a S. Although, if the right playmaker wants a spot I could see Hoke taking one less DT to fill the spot. Or like you questioned, just force a commit out. But who? They have a pretty well rounded class right now.

I had a dream where Ty Isaac committed here, but as a WR...

Just sayin'. That was like the entire dream.

“@SWiltfong247: Ty Isaac has shared the ball with two other Division-I RBs in his high school career. He won't care about competition wherever he goes.”

I disagree with Stevie here. Seems like he likes USC because of lack of depth and made a point to mention that ND only wants one RB and is aware of the possible depth overload at UM too

Man, it's bad enough to see UM racking up the top recruits already this year. But it's even worse to see them do it during times ND is dealing with rough recruiting patches, like Tee right now.

If we think about the past few months of recruiting for ND, it's been the ultimate roller coaster. From the highs of knowing we're going into next season with Darby, Decker, Greenberry in the fold, to losing all Darby and Decker, to landing Gunner, to losing Greenberry in especially excruciating fashion, to landing Davonte Neal, and to now losing Tee.

We could really use some sustained serious momentum. Maybe landing a couple highly touted guys around the spring game will help?

Michigan's class will be 22 to 24. This comes from Brady Hoke speaking at an Alumni function in Detroit. Brian at Mgoblog was there, and reported this, video-taped portions of Hoke speaking as well.

That leaves 6 to 8 scholarships.

Wyatt Shallman is a 6'3, 255 pound 16-year old high school junior that barely played RB the past season because of injuries. He was pretty limited in 2011, played basically only on defense, which was very different from his sophomore year when he played both ways. There is no way in hell he ever sees the field at RB in college. Telling him he will play RB is nothing more than a recruiting tactic IMO.

USC will be taking at least 2 RB's, probably more like 3. They have a huge need at the position. I think he likes USC because of USC.

There is no depth overload of RB's at Michigan. Wyatt Shallman has as much of a chance of playing RB in college as you or I have of winning the lottery IMO.
