Neither do I. Kelly and Martin have alluded to the fact that there will be some changes at rb this year including a greater coordination and inclusion in the passing game.

Here is a better quote from the press conference thread today:

It sounds like to me that next year there might not be slot receivers at all. Just that all players get grouped together into one position with Alford leading the way. This would allow flexibility for the normal spread sets to quickly audible to a two back set (rumored to be implemented by Martin). I'm liking the coaching changes a lot.

This week George told Dan Murphy of 247 that he doesn't know yet where he'll be playing in the spring or thereafter but that he is excited to play wherever they put him and he thinks the hybrid role suits him well.
(hybrid slot/RB, I assume)

I hope he adds some bulk regardless.
I have seen him around and think he already has added some upper body strength since the end of the season. Probably could use a bit more, but he has until next season, so he seems to be on "track" to be a good size come September.

Despite all the alleged reasons why GAIII was moved from WR to RB, if he can make a successful move back to outside WR for us, it would really help our depth chart.

Because Kelly seems to be really positive about going with the hybrid talents like Riddick, and presumably Russell and Neal, I agree whole-heartedly that unless Daniels, Ferguson, Brown, and Smith step up immediately [Goodman, too, for that matter], GAIII would look to be way more help in the receiving corps than a mere fast-no-shake running back.

In a surprising decision, George will remain in Morrissey next year. Very surprising and rare for a football player to last more than a year. #represent

No. Morrissey was once rated one of the worst dorms in America, due to several infestations and tiny rooms.

Thats why its surprising.

No more infestations, but still has the small rooms. Literally closets

I love the way George looked at practice today. He looks imposing on the field! I dont know if its just me but he looks like he could be dominating this year.

Say what you want, but if one person misses GA can take it to the house at any time, have not seen that around ND much lately. Were talking state champ speed in CALI!!!! Get the man the ball 7-8x per game this year at least, I dont care if its RB,SLOT, or WR.

Seriously. Kid looked big and we already know he's fast. I'm pumped to see what he can do. Kid is gonna be a beast!

They did say he was weighing 210. 6'2" 210 with a 40 in the 4.3s? Damn.

I thought he was kept @ RB because of his hands.

this was the reason last year and he is explosive..so however he gets on the field which is why the slots and rb are coached by alford...they are going to be interchanging...even toma in the practice vids was taking snaps at rb...get all the personal from rb to slot to be able to motion out, bring to backfield and not be limited w/ personal

Lynch practices! (And other spring headlines) | Inside the Irish
George Atkinson spent Easter weekend in Palo Alto, close to his Northern California home and also competing in the Stanford Invitational track meet. Atkinson won his heat in the 100m dash, qualifying for the finals with a 10.61 sprint. He finished sixth in the final heat, clocking a 10.69. Atkinson also participated in the 200m dash, clocking a 21.53 run, eight in a field of almost 50 sprinters.

Of course, none of the other sprinters in Palo Alto are 6-1, 210 pound running backs in the middle of spring football practice. Atkinson’s elite speed, not to mention his impressive size and ability to play in space, will be a very intriguing piece of the Irish offense next fall, especially with the depth at the tailback position allowing him to play from the slot and move around the field.

Head coach Brian Kelly has made it known that he sees Atkinson as a running back first, and while he doesn’t have an elite set of hands, there will be plenty of opportunities to get the ball out in space and make plays, not to mention create some favorable match-ups when the Irish can potentially put Cierre Wood, Theo Riddick, Amir Carlisle and Atkinson on the field at once.

Sure, it’d be great if there weren’t a ton of unanswered questions at the outside receiving positions. But Atkinson — who has the size to line up outside — might be too good of an athlete to keep off the field, playing out of position or not.

If this son of a bitch can keep the ball against his body, run with two hands on the ball when going through the line or a pile, and catch a pitch...he's gonna be SO GOOD.

I'm no longer concerned about RB if Cierre leaves after this year.

To be fair, the fumble on the pitch reeeeally wasn't all his fault. Sure, he could/should have caught it, but the pitch was very late and was tossed with a defender basically wrapping him up already. It was a terrible pitch. The other one was just the Holy Spirit playing 12th man for the defense testing his ball security. I think he'll be fine in that department and stellar in everything else. Not worried.

I was about to say this. The pitch was late and shouldn't have ever occurred. Tommy really should have just ate it, but he pussed out and pitched it for another guy to get walloped.

I really only put the pitch thing because I had already started a list and didn't want to go back and change it to a simple conjunction or whatever. lol

Its cool. It hadn't been brought up yet, so I figured I would mention it.

Btw, you really slacked on the tweeting all day man! I was expecting some cutting edge stuff. How was the meeting with the coach?

Check my fireside chat thread. :(

I was pretty much babysitting all day so it was hard to tweet a lot. I heard a lot of great stories from my old ball coach though about coach Holtz, Urban Meyer, and coach Moore.

I understand. I just wish I were able to be there. Next year.

So after watching today, do we think that GAIII might get some serious consideration as the RB2 and flank Theo out wide again more? I was just so impressed by GA today. I guess I wasn't expecting it.
