This kid can play. Loved the highlight tape. I didn't care for the way he held the ball at times, but that is fixable easily.

You have to like the Penn State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia offers too. The kid can ball and the three-star ranking shouldn't scare you off at all.

I agree Buster.

This kid is one, where if you watch his tape, the 3 star rating is insignificant.

He has great speed, great elusiveness/shiftiness, and he isn't afraid to put his shoulder down and truck someone either.

One thing I liked about the tape was his balance. I thought he did a good job keeping his feet under him and not outrunning himself if that makes sense.

186 times for 2,400 yards and 41 touchdowns? That's insane.

Oh and 16 rec for 314 and 7 more tds.

High-school teammate of '12 Pitt recruit Trenton Coles
Another great WPIAL athlete (and AA to boot). Clairton doesn't have the best academic reputation, so I hope he is squared away there ( and I bet he is given his offer.). Really would love to add a "local" guy to the nd squad. If nothing else create a real strong pipeline in western pa. That said he most likely be a tough pull from Pitt.
Note: not able to see his video right now, so sorry I am not able to comment on him specifically. But, I do remember the name from following wpial football (though I haven't in the past 1.5 years). He is really a strong player. And I don't think his 3* is warrented, from what I've heard a 4* maybe a very very high 3* ( think okwara, maybe even higher).

Moved into his top 2. Replaced PSU... us and WVU, we can likely have him if we want him.

Consensus 4 star. Can play WR or Safety. I'd take him but I like Torii Hunter jr a little more.

Here are some updated rankings:

4:s: #13 S on Scout
4:s: #29 WR (#205 overall) on Rivals
4:s: #16 ATH (#160 overall) on ESPN
4:s: 90 rating, #39 WR on 247

Kid is hella versatile.

I like that he played some (not a lot, but some) DB in the video. Looks like he was playing a deep safety role, but he could be a worthwhile project at corner if he has any interest in it and we don't gain any ground on any of the other corners we are chasing this cycle. Seems to have the right build for it at an athletic-but-thin 6'1", along with some pretty good ball skills, good speed and seemingly good agility. Would probably be a little bit of a project to get him up to speed on the finer points and techniques of the position, but the raw tools are there. If it didn't work out, you could always find some other way to utilize that athleticism somewhere on the roster.

Edit: realize that in updated rankings he is sometimes ranked as a safety. I'll defer to the people that do this for a living and assume maybe he isn't a corner prospect, but it seemed to me he could be worth a look there.

Stuff to keep in mind:

After the Notre Dame offer, Michigan State and Wisconsin offered as well. Not that they're in the running, but they certainly like what he can do on the field--that's good to see.

He camped at Ohio State, but did not receive an offer.

He could always be a corner the way BJax ended up at corner even if recruited as a WR, ATH, etc. Certainly seems fluid enough on the little but of video we see... changes direction well running forward. No real way to look at his hips, back pedal, closing speed, etc. though. Does clearly have ball skills.

Has he had an offer from ND or did he just get one recently?

He was offered in February. Was pretty close to a PSU lock, now he's mainly considering ND and WVU. Means we've at least been staying in contact.

EDIT: damn 1/2

We were expecting news on Sickels & Breneman & got news on Boyd & Douglas. Would still take both in a heartbeat. Great job by the staff (more with Douglas) to keep contact

Part of an article that also talked about Dorian Johnson. List appears to be in alphabetical order.
Colleges chasing Penn State players, prospects | TribLIVE

Clairton wide receiver Tyler Boyd said Penn State “is no longer my top school” but added that he has not completely dropped the Lions off his list. Instead, they have moved to the bottom, behind Arizona, Arizona State, Notre Dame, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

“When I met with coach (Bill) O’Brien, he was really impressive,” Boyd said. “He’s the only reason they are still on my list.”

Tyler Boyd>Torii Hunter Jr.

I really, really want this kid after watching his film. Plays a lot like Golden Tate. I would like to see him be a RB/WR hybrid type of player

Nah, big skill is like LBs, TEs, etc. No way Boyd is in that category.
You are correct wasn't thinking this morning. He is just a skill player.

BTW I'm not sure where I like him more at WR or S

Looks like Eliar Hardy to me.

I will take any highly-regarded WR/DB. I think we need to close this class with at least one more WR and one more CB, but I would take 2 more of each if the right kids came along. Recruit him as an athlete.

A bird in hand!

Will take an OV to ND. First OV he wants to take. ND in a very good position. Interesting to see if Butler puts in work at Gridiron Kings. I would love to add Boyd... super versatile.

I think it is. It's the greater than sign, which I vaguely remember from fourth grade or so as being open towards the bigger number (as in, the fish wants to eat the bigger meal).
But anyway...

One question. If this guy's such a stud, how come his next-best offers are Wisconsin and West Virginia?
