Bennett also screwed up his start. So we have three guys running around a 6.9... damn, that's fast. Really, really fast.

I love how athletic our 3:s: guys are. Baratti and Brown too.

All about upside. You should recruit football players how you draft for fantasy football... after you lock down your couple blue chip players, take guys who might develop into something special... not the "solid 3:s: with good technique." The 3:s: who is close to his ceiling is likely never to see the field at ND.

Congrats to @GeorgeAtk3 on making 60 meter finals today. Not bad considering he, his brother & Bennett Jackson's 1st day of track was Mon.

Anybody else thinking GA3 moves back to WR this year? I would think he has a better chance to make a bigger impact and get the football in his hands more at the WR positon. With Wood, Riddick, now Russell, and Roberson/Mahone battling for the big back role, it would seem getting carries at the RB position is going to be tough. The need is at WR and he would be killer on all these bubbble screens Kelly likes to run. He would also give the offense a stretch the field/vertical threat with his size and speed.

If I remember correctly, wasn't he recruited as a WR but switched to RB because of a lack of bodies at the position last year?

Yes and I predict he becomes the game breaker for us on O.

I think a related question is what happens with Theo Riddick? If he stays at RB, which all signs seem to indicate he will, then I think it's very possible Atkinson gets moved back over to receiver. The problem with moving guys around willy-nilly is that it stunts their growth.

I am a big fan of GAIII at WR, especially if Amir can play this year. If not I would like GAIII to play both. I would love to see a package look like this: Eifert flexed out with With GAII and Daniels and Koyack flexed out opposite side. Golson in the gun with Amir at his side.

Atkinson is so fast, when was the last time we've had this much speed on both sides of the ball?

I agree with your observation that guys shouldn't be moved around from one position to another every year, but since Alford is now coaching the slot receivers as well as the running backs do you think there might be more positional flexibility?

I've also taken into consideration Martin taking over the OC duties. If I recall correctly, the offenses that he's ran in the pass are a bit more run-heavy than BK's recent offenses. I'm going to be really interested to see how the offense might evolve this upcoming year..

Some of this is also based off of my recollection that ND ran more two-back sets in the later games this past season. I'll be really curious to see what the staff will do to utilize all the hybrid slot/running backs we have. Obviously Riddick fits the mold, but we also have Atkinson (who was supposed to start off at WR), Carlisle, and now Russel. It seems all of these guys have the capability of playing both positions. I'd like to see these guys moved around between the backfield and flexing out into the slot as well. I think it could provide some help with the running game and allow us to take advantage of defensive mismatches.

I'm not that much of an X's and O's guys, but based off of the personnel we have and some of the coaching changes, it seems like we might see something like I've laid out above. I'd be curious to listen to what others think about it.

If I remember correctly it was 199never.. it sure is getting athletic around nd football. But let's remember Holtz's depth charts had NFL stars buried.

extremely fast...might lack the lateral agility movements at times.. hopefully he can work on that... we have so much speed on both sides of the ball its crazy.. the future looks bright...if we figure out the qb situation.. look out..

GA III's knock was ball skills. Meaning, he wasn't the best at catching the ball. GA III was a RB in HS. I think we see K Russell out there before we see GA III. Just my opinion. Spring ball will be the tell all.

I agree. But IMHO a player like GAIII has got to have the ball in his hands one way or another.. Jet sweeps, pitches, screens etc etc.

This is where an OC's job gets interesting. You have Cierre, Riddick and depth at RB with an athlete like GAIII who has game changing speed, not much experience as a back and maybe not the best hands at receiver. He needs the oppurtunities one way or another. Get after it Chuck!!!

Does anyone think with Alford in charge of RB/Slot, that we will see GAIII get majority of his time in the slot position?

Yeah, Well, You know, thats like.... your opinion, man.
Terry Tate is at the top of my list...

Neither do I. Kelly and Martin have alluded to the fact that there will be some changes at rb this year including a greater coordination and inclusion in the passing game.

Here is a better quote from the press conference thread today:

Irish Sports Daily @ISDUpdate

Kelly says they want to use RB's in slot position and RB position, that's why the dual move for Alford
