Too bad. It would have been nice to get this kid, but it's not the end of the world by any means. Wish this kid the best of luck. We have Cam this class and we have some pretty darned good rbs already here so the show goes on. I am elated about our class and just want we have on board to sign come NSD. Adding someone like Amir would have been nice, but far from an absolute necessity.

They're waiting on some very big fish, and if they're not careful, they might not get any of them. They've been hoping for Westermen (cut SC last week), Hobbi (on an OV as we speak, good shot for him), and the kid with the long last name whose brother is at Alabama (he's deciding whether he'll take his last OV to SC or Auburn - but is most certainly Bama bound).

They might not get any of those kids and they could be seriously screwed, b/c the ones they recruited are VERY raw and will need time to develop (if they ever do); so if they get any injuries, they are SCREWED...

Good post. I would also add that USC is making a vital mistake by filling this class with "skill" players. If there is one strong aspect of their current roster, it is that they have a lot of elite players at the skill positions (ie QB, RB, WR). These guys are young and will be on their roster through their recruiting restrictions. I think Weis proved that you cannot win at a high level with skill players unless you have the guys in the trenches. If I was recruiting at USC, I would focus my recruiting ALL front 7 on D and lineman.

I agree, and I think BK understands this very well.

All these marginals recruits that USC is signing will probably be not offered schollies in the future, USC are a bunch of cheaters and anyone who would think about going there isnt ND material, I wish Amir the best, but I think he made a fatal career mistake, but on the bright side I hope we will see what Cam can do, I always thought he was the better player out of the two.

Im not even sure what the first bold part even means but USC has a very good class right now. So if your suggesting that they are filling the depth chart with marginal recruits, your a little off base.

To say that Cam is better than Amir is also a stretch. You can base that on your love for ND but realistic fans understand that Amir is an incredible athlete that would have added another dimension to this class. I like Cam and I hope that he developes into a solid player at ND but at the moment, he is not a better prospect than Amir Carlisle.

I wish him well. I woulda loved to get this kid but he didn't feel we were the right fit. Thats ok with me, not everyone is ND material. Don't get me wrong I hope we crush him for the next 4-5 yrs, but he went about this properly, and for that I wish him the best.

Irishman-I love your use of 'realistic' and 'true ND fans.' Entertaining stuff.

I, personally, am very bummed to lose Amir to all others, but the Trojans? WTF!

Damn. Seriously pissed now fellas.

It stings.

Anger. Red. No refuge.
"Welcome to Hollywood."
A$$ whoopin's will ensue.

I wish him the best luck. May the Ishaq, Lynch, and Tuitt sandwich not crush his soul a fissure to escape... But the decision was made. A line drawn. This is war.

Agreed. As much as we all wanted Amir, it will feel good to beat the Trojans for the next 4 years with him on the field or on the sideline. I feel the same about Prater and every other recruit I followed for a full year only to watch him decide for the enemy.

I wish the kid all the best. In his mind outside of football, he made the right decision if his passion is acting and theater.

I never saw any concrete evidence of this kid coming here, although I remained optimistic. He didn't, he chose U$C and now all of the sudden he sucks? a "fatal career error"... I hate U$C just as much as the next Irish fan, but for goodness sake have some sense about things. He made his choice and it doesn't deter from the talent that this kid has.

To piggy back on what FL said, that's just wrong man. Be better than that. There are tons of former USC players that made the 'fatal career mistake' of choosing USC who have made or are making millions of dollars in the NFL. And USC has been on probation plenty of times and have had 5-6 or 4-7 years and they still had players make the NFL.

And academically, he chose SC for the right reasons. Read this quote and tell me he chose SC for the wrong reasons:

“I think I fit great into their offense and will work hard to be a part of their resurgence,” Carlisle said. “I also want to be an actor and they have a great program there at USC. I have been acting since I was 6. It’s hard with football and I have done more stage stuff than film.”

He also said he prayed on it and that God put him on that path. And you know what? I'm good with it. Not everyone was meant to be at ND. People choose different schools for different reasons. He chose SC for good reasons. I wish he hadn't, but he did.

And believe me, I teach across the street from SC - I can't stand SC; but I'm always telling my students (after I rip SC - my class is full of ND stuff; the score from last year's ND/SC game is still on my whiteboard LOL) that in all honesty, going to SC (or any other university) should be a goal of theirs and they can get a great education there. And that's the God honest truth. They don't give most of their football players a great education, but they do offer an excellent education for students that want it.

Now excuse me while I puke...

Kind of wondering why he chose Stanford to start with since he has such an interest in acting.

Carlisle's father's comments on the USC commitment per ESPN:

"Amir really felt Stanford was the best fit for him athletically, academically, spiritually and every way you can think of," Carlisle's father Duane said. "When he committed to Stanford, he always said there were two schools he would open things up for, USC and Notre Dame.

"All three programs are incredible schools and Amir loved all three a lot. When he took his official visit to USC, during the season my wife and I weren't able to go. Amir really wanted us to see the place and basically pleaded with me and said, 'dad, please come and check this place out.' He wanted to get our opinion on it and wanted us to see it first hand and it was definitely impressive for sure."

Carlisle said there were a number of factors that went into his son's decision.

"Academically, Amir wants to double major in theater and business and USC is ranked No. 1 in both," Duane Carlisle said. "He wants to go into acting when football is over and there really isn't a better place you can go than USC for that. We sat down, my wife and I, and had a great talk with the academic people, with Lane Kiffin and with Pat Haden and felt very comfortable with Amir attending USC.

"Coach Kiffin and Kennedy Pola, the running backs coach, are great people and we're excited how they want to use Amir. They want to use him the same way they used Reggie Bush, meaning he'll run the ball, play some slot, and return some kicks. Amir is very excited and we are too. Like I said, these are three great schools and he really couldn't go wrong but he just felt most comfortable at USC."

USC is NOT ranked #1 in business. I really want to know who the hell feeds these people this kind of misinformation.

I applaud Amir for taking his time and choosing a school for the academics and not the football... but seriously, USC is not the #1 business school in USN&WR or Business Week... and Notre Dame definitely is in the latter. Still, good kid with a good head on his shoulders, I just hope he doesn't end up being a huge playmaker against us.

PS. I love Kiffin trying to act like he had anything to do with Reggie or the glory days. So laughable.

Wasn't he part of the coaching staff while Bush was pay for playing there?

Yes, but he had jack **** to do with Reggie Bush being Reggie Bush. He was a TE coach and then a WR coach and then he became offensive coordinator in '05/'06... so I guess, because he was the offensive dude, he could say "I want to use you like Reggie." And I'm probably jumping the gun a little bit. But everyone and their mother knows that the systems and coaching were not Kiffin's and Kiffin was never a RB guy and he was a puppet for Carrol his entire tenure in that role. If he was a good egg, he would have not been USC's 4th choice behind Sarkesian, etc.

I thought he was on the staff but was unsure where on the staff. Thanks for the clarification.

As much as we may hate to admit it, USC offers a great education for those who want it. Given his interests, USC certainly makes sense. As for rankings, they are very subjective. But if we're going to go by them, you can find ones for both sides. And yeah, NYU didn't offer football ;)

This is true. Notre Dame is an elite institution...there's no question about that. Student-athletes are certainly held accountable for the student part.

But, sometimes guys find exactly what they need academically in other places. That doesn't mean that they are trying to get out of work and it doesn't necessarily mean that their education has been compromised.

In my field, for example, Florida State offers a much more comprehensive and reputable program than Notre Dame.

Take this all with a grain of salt or feel free to dismiss me completely. We're all fans.

I didn't realize there was still a market for underwater basket weavers.
