Why did my Gunner Kiel thread get deleted and this steaming pile of a thread not?

This was voted in my poll as the first thread that should be deleted, but alas, even my poll was deleted.:werd:

This thread got to 15 pages!? And half the post are either "this thread will die" or "kill this thread"

I'm going to give into a poorly conceived urge and post in this thread.

Asking complex questions asks for trouble especially on the internet. Simplistic answers to complex answers actually subtract from the total knowledge in the Universe and constitute capital sins for intelligent lifeforms --- fortunately Earth is free from that criterion.

The Tommy question has several iterations. These are a few:
1). Am I a fan of Tommy as a good young person who is going to school at Notre Dame?? Absolutely a fan.
2). Am I a fan of Tommy as a hard-working member of the Notre Dame football team? Absolutely a fan.
3). Am I a fan of Tommy as a player who is working his butt off to be the best that he can be for the team? Absolutely a fan.
4). Am I a fan of Tommy for doing all he could in a very difficult situation into which he was placed? Absolutely a fan.
5). Am I a fan of Tommy for performing his duties to the team without personal egocentrism? Absolutely a fan.
6). Am I a fan of Tommy for showing amazing toughness and maturity in an impossible task? Absolutely a fan.
7). Will I be a fan of Tommy if the Coach decides that he is to be the starter in the coming season? Absolutely a fan.

Now a different question set:
8). Will I be a fan of the general concept of Coach starting a Quarterback who cannot run? No, absolutely not a fan of that, but will not rag on the player chosen to do that job.
9). Will I be a fan of the general concept that we have no true elite playmaker ready to play Quarterback? No, absolutely not a fan of that, but will not rag on the player who has to fill the role as best he can.
10). Will I be a fan of those fans who like to take cheap shots, without at all moderating their language, on any of our players, everyone of which is busting his a$s for our team and we fans? No, absolutely not a fan of such people.

..... and the Universe is a little poorer in understanding but I couldn't help it....

I have to say this is one of the most reasonable posts and i respect it alot. He is not ripping me or Tommy which many of you have been doing but insted talks about ups and downs on the situation. Tommy is like a double sided blade, one side is great, no picks over 250 yards and 4 tds to all different WR/TE and thats great. On the other side you see a guy who has less then 180 yards, 2 picks, and 1 fumble, and very bad thows. He needs to work on these thing but if he dose he can become a very good QB. You dont always need a running QB there is such thing as a pockit QB, how many good QBs in the pros can run, its just my thought and i would love to hear what the other vet guys on here think being that i am new to this and being a hardcore ND fan thank you and GO IRISH AND TOMMY REES

I know and i just wish that in the blue and gold game he shows that the experience he has is going to come in handy and that he has improved on his own game because he will be playing against one of the toughest Ds in college.

Ok I have to just throw this on here...I've read enough of it.

Tommy Rees is inconsistent. Tommy is a below average quarterback for the level of competition he plays with. He had the 55th best passer rating in the country. He tied for 41st in TD passes (that is the same as other excellent qbs: Tyler Hansen, Denard Robinson, Tanner Price, Jacory Harris, and Brett Smith). His great completion percentage was a mere 22nd in the nation. 45th best in passing yards…is that the level of play you really want out of our quarterback play at Notre Dame?
ND should be among the elite. The only category that put him near the top 10 in the nation was tied for 11th with 14 interceptions. That is unacceptable.

Seriously looking through stats made me realize that Tommy’s passing this year resembled Denard Robinson’s…yes, Denard Robinson passed for very similar stats this season. If you’re happy about that, then I’m sorry you are delusional. I love the passion in defending the Irish, but sometimes you have to move on to better things.

And what "better things" would that be? Hendrix's sub 50% completion percentage? Golson's ........... whatever it is that keeps Kelly from playing him?

Kmoose, 50% Andrew completion rate???

Really, there is no excuse for 1-4 against top teams.

No excuse for 2 Ints in the end zone against FSU. And basically single handedly losing the FSU game. Not ever 1 players fault. But, the defense held FSU to 18 points. And throwing 2 INTS int the end zone is just unacceptable.

No excuse for can't outrun a slug! Statue is an understatement.

No excuse for 6 TD's and 13 Turnovers against good defenses.

Sorry, Andrew and Everett both could have lost those 4 games and got valuable experience. And actually can run. And that 1 flipping win Tommy had 2 turnovers!!! And the defense held MSU to 13 points and GAIII had a kickoff for a TD. So, even that win the defense and special teams bailed out Tommy Turnvoer.

Kmoose, Brian K. made a bad decision to ride Tommy Turnover.

Obviously we can't say that Golson has better numbers, and obviously we can't say Hendrix has the better stats...thats ridiculous. What we can say is that Tommy is obviously not an above average quarterback. How did Willingham know that Brady Quinn was better than Carlyle Holiday? Didn't Holiday just lead ND to a 10-3 season and also get named to the O'Brien watch list before being replaced by Quinn? You think that he was replaced because Quinn was that much better, or because maybe they realized this kid had hit his ceiling at QB and it was time to move on.

I think Tommy can still improve. He just hasn't shown any signs of being great, and his improvement will not turn him into one of the nation's top qb's. Have you watched him play and said, "wow, that kid has something special." You watched a guy like Jimmy Clausen and saw some of the plays he was making as a young player and said, "there is something special there. He can really develop." I haven't seen that in Tommy yet. Time to move on to someone with real potential.

I havent grown up with the ND team most of you have and seen a amazing ND team.
