Proof?

I guess I should say that I haven't looked this up, but I'd bet Wisconsin does not get the highly rated o-linemen that Oklahoma and USC get. My point is they get their guys and make them great. They're either underrated or just developed well, but their o-line ratings wise probably does not compare to the above teams.

Edit: proof. According to scout.com, Wisconsin hasn't had a single 4-stsr olineman in the last 4 years. Boom.

I was reviewing ND's O-line recruiting for 2011, 2012, and 2013. The shortest guy is 6'4" (Hanratty). They are all between 260-300 coming out of high school. They will all obviously gain weight/muscle as they age. So basically, we are looking at a bunch of 6'5", 300+ lb monsters for the next few years. If these guys are at all mobile and technically sound, we are in business. It will be like running into a wall.

It was more of recognizing the top tier, winning programs we're taking on and beating for recruits. But, I do see your point. Wisconsins classes haven't been overly impressive

That could be true I suppose.

It seems, sometimes, like some kids lose a star if they aren't interested in a particularly "rated" team.

But then again, Kiel didn't lose much for IU, so I digress.

OL is easily the hardest position to project. Just look at the lineman drafted the last 5 years. Not all 5 stars coming out of high school go in the first three rounds and plenty of 3 star guys go ahead of them. I believe there is a thread somewhere that discusses all this at length.

It might be more difficult to predict like you said, but when you're had one of the best olines the last couple years and don't have a 4-star on your roster, you're doing something right at practices/weight training, etc. I think it's more of an indictment on their development than recruiting oline is all I'm saying.

I'd have to imagine thats true. I don't know a ton about all the intangibles D1 programs look for in a OL recruits tape. I know foot movement, pad levels, explosion, hand placements are some of them but I wouldn't really be able to decipher elite from average.

When watching Stanley's tape I came away saying to myself "It looks like he's just mauling kids half his size on every play.. " How do the coaches evaluate this and what do they really take away from it?

I'd think the camps and competitions give the coaches a closer look at an OLs ability to handle close to their equal in athleticism.

I know next to nothing about OL play or what skills coaches use when evaluating HS linemen, but it does seem to me that the big thing college coaches are looking for is size and they figure they can teach the techniques themselves. I think that is part of the reason why they are so hard to project: kids grow at different rates.

By the time a class of O-linemen are ready for the NFL draft, all of the growing has evened out and its more about skill. Some kids that don't have the size to play at an elite level in college as 17 year olds have caught up by the time they are 21 or 22, and odds are that some of them are going to be more skilled than kids that were 6'7" / 320 coming out of high school.

He said Friday, son. And you said a million. Or is this a new bet? lol

It was for Friday, and for any recruit. Wouldn't mind a mild power failure or such for Stanley to put off the announcement until tomorrow. :)

Phork took the bet first so the saga will continue. IrishinFL, you're on for the 10,000vbucks.

You might as well just give me the 10,000 vBucks, because no ones committing between 10 and 12 tomorrow.

I live in Vegas and a Gormanite just confirmed that he is all irish! Apparently he is a great guy, and pretty quiet about his decision, but has discussed his intentions in the locker room and asked the guys not to say anything. Ronnie has known since his visit that it was ND. Great get.
