Just seen that he had 244 of his yards AFTER halftime when they were up 42-7.

Saying " I was being double and triple teamed all game and still broke the record" is not being humble, more of being cocky. But hey I guess he deserves that praise for now.

Congrats on him setting the record and all, that's awesome. Just not the right way to go about it IMO.

Running up the score or not, how many HS games are there, how many teams, etc. Seems like nationwide there would have been a larger mismatch than 2 teams in the same conference. Until they face tougher competition, it's stat padding, but I should have taken Deiter in my HS fantasy league!

Not impressed by forcing the ball to your star receiver when your up by that much.
Trying to impress the recruiter or not.

Not sure if he understands what it means to be humbled.

If I had to guess, I'm assuming the "#humbled" was addressed to those on the opposing team trying to cover him. If the kids covering him had any intentions of stopping him, then they were indeed humbled.

Is it his fault his coach kept having the ball thrown to him? Don't down the kid for going out and playing

Forcing the ball to him all game isn't gonna help him when your up huge.
Made it look like the coach has been padding his stats all season long.
Put the kid at running back in that situation or something and run the clock out and show his versatility.

Jones should be extremely grateful Dieter was not hurt late in the game. There is no reason for Dieter to be in the game after halftime. They were up by 30+ points. If the kid had been injured, Jones would have looked like a bigger _____

I do have one thing to say...

I don't care what kind of competition you're facing...

if you can't be stopped while being triple covered...

you're damn good.

Come on, kids. If there are three of you on him someone has to at least sneak in a sucker punch or something to get him out of the game. Or wait for him to jump and then sweep his legs out. If you can't stop him from catching it, make him no longer WANT to catch it.

Give the kid the praise he deserves instead of composing about a decision made by his coaches. As for his tweet I don't know about you but I'd be damn excited if I just set the national record

What exactly is wrong with Jones giving Dieter every chance to put up monster numbers and earn a BCS scholarship? There were multiple coaches (including 2 coaches from Notre Dame) at this game.

If I'm a coach who cares about my player and wants him to get that scholly, I'm doing the same thing.

He is blowing up nationally, on the front page of ESPN. Major writers are talking about him on twitter. Dude is dominating, offer him already.

If the coach wants to target him I am all for it. I am even ok with going for the record at the very end of the game being so close to it an all.

My issue is that with less then 5 minutes left in the game and already up 40+ points he wasn't even close to the record. He should not have been in the game at that point and the coach sure as hell should not having been calling play action from the 10 yd line and throwing it deep. The other team had obviously already conceded at that point.

Congrats to him for breaking the record though, amazing feat. Also we should probably measure our comments as I do recall seeing his father as a poster on this site a while back.

Aren't most of these records broke that way?

One team is clearly outmatched and runs it up.

How often does a kid have a game like this where the score is 50-49?

Maybe they were still in the game because they asked to be! The team they were playing were cheap shoting especially at Dieter and Perkins so they deserved what they got. Don't start nothing won't be nothing. Big props to G-Boy and keep putting on the show and the offers will come. Get your popcorn ready!!!!!!

I'm too lazy to go look for a link, but in the ETruth article things got chippy and benches cleared while the score was running up. No punches thrown, but during this altercation Coach Jones talked to Central's coach about wanting to give Dieter the record. According to Washington's story, Central gave it the "OK" and understood that a record like this doesn't come around offer. Meanwhile, according to Central, he said "if you want to do it, fine, but you'll have to live with the consequences."

This might be a fun rivalry.

High School football: Panthers' Dieter snags national record - southbendtribune.com

"To Elkhart Central fans, it wasn't about running up the score," Jones said. "We got the blessings from their head coach to let him go ahead and do it, and (Dieter) wanted to go for it."

Johnson remembered the chat a little differently.

"I didn't give him my blessing; I said I understand what he was doing," Johnson said. "I can understand when he's got an athlete like Dieter, and he doesn't get an opportunity like that very often.

"But what I will sit and question and what (Jones) will have to sit and question is do you put records over sportsmanship.

Seems like he answered that question loud and clear.

From the SBT article:

Dieter had eight receptions for 193 yards at the intermission. Following touchdown catches of 70 and 90 yards, he was up to 353 just a few seconds into the final frame.

For the rest of the game, every Washington play was designed to be pass to Dieter.
Following the final touchdown, the Panthers (3-0, 1-0 NIC) had 10 plays on offense -- two catches by Dieter, four incompletions to him, two interceptions on passes to him and a pair of sacks against quarterback Daigien Morgan.

Um...I have wanted good things to happen for this kid, even if I wasn't sure that ND should offer him. But I'm not impressed at all with this tweet. I guess the record is nice, even if it came by exploiting inferior competition. But let the record speak for itself. No reason to fellate yourself on the internet about it.

Totally agree.

Perhaps the lack of interest from ND has nothing at all to do with talent. Kelly is looking for those RKG's. Is he one? Doesn't seem like a team guy to me. If I'm a team guy I wouldn't boast and bask in my own glory without at least throwing a bone to my teammates (think they mighta played a part in the success).

Now I think you guys are reading too much into these things and judging the kid's character. I don't think we have anything to say that Gehrig would be a bad kid.
