I don't have many sources that I reference for bullshit info. But I just got off the phone with a friend of mine, a man who came to my wedding, who is great friends with my father, and an affluent former Indiana University grad that knowns the Creans and the Indiana athletic department.

Word is, a high profile candidate has looked into the possibility of taking over Bill Lynch's job.

Allow me to play reverse twenty questions... to see who wins.

1. Former NFL Player
2. Fromer Colt
3. Crean's wife is related to this individual.
4. ALL of his family comes from a small area surrounding Indiana.
5. His brother coaches the freaking Ravens.

Jim... fu*king Harbaugh. Could you image the coaching coup that would make for Indiana? Wow.

The guy loves the Midwest. His entire family is here. He loved playing for the Colts when they got SCREWED by the freaking Steelers.

(God... I was 10. I'm still freaking pissed about that).

Guy likes a challenge. Took Stanford from a doormat to a force in the PAC-10.

I dunno. I think this may have some legs.

May have some legs but does it have a brain?

This is a guy being rumored to be in the running for Michigan and a couple of NFL slots.

Seriously, IU is a place for coaching careers to go to die.

IU is the third Div I college in a poor recruiting state.

It's a historical 0.422 winning record.

Bill Mallory was the only bit off sunlight at IU in half a century and he finished at under .500 for his career.

You have to go back to more than 60 years to find a winning IU coach, Bo McMillen.

Mallory's the only coach since McMillen to win 40% of his games.

The last time IU finished in the polls ND won a National Championship. They only finished in the polls about a half dozen times.

If he went to Vandy he'd have a better shot at success.

His wife went to high school in Olathe Kansas, her family are big KU fans, I have seen pics of Harbaugh in KU gear......They have brand new facilities, some recent success, play in a better league, and offered him more money to come to KU and he stayed at Stanford....I don't see it happening.

Wabash offers solid football analysis in his posts. In this case he established his connection to the source and why he finds that source credible.

I don't think it's going to happen and I commented why in a previous post below but aside from questioning Wabash's sanity do you have anything to offer?

The key sentence in Wabash's profile was:

Word is, a high profile candidate has looked into the possibility of taking over Bill Lynch's job.

I find it highly unlikely that he pick a place like IU but I never would have guessed Minnesota as a destination for Lou Holtz. Strange things happen. Family life/pressures (Shelley Meyer supposedly had a strong influence on Urban's choice of UF), relationship with his boss (Holtz had a peer relationship with AD Rosenthal. Under Wadsworth/Beauchamp he was treated like an employee), burn out, health issues are all factors that could make an unlikely choice a possibility.
