Welcome back, bro.

On Jarron: seems like an odd time to add UNC. I think Louisville and Syracuse could be headed in the right direction, but neither would be on my short list if I were a big-time recruit like Jarron.

That was my thinking as well. Still looks like a PSU v. ND battle, which we will win easily if the Irish perform on the field.

So he has a top 6 of Syracuse, PSU, ND, Louisville, UNC, and VT, with Syracuse leading according to Rivals. Doesn't make much sense.

Aside from VT and ND, the other four will be garbage this year regardless of their respective records. I agree with TT that the USC game will be huge in his recruitment.

However, I might Schutt my pants if we whiff on him...

Would be interesting if the State Penn did not have room for him because they took Schutt.

Penn State will probably not be "garbage" this year, if they can get a quarterback.

I think everyone is reading to much into his top 5 or top 3 or top 2. Its a Penn State ND battle. With Virginia Tech not far behind. USC game as TT said.

Welcome back GB.

I'm more worried about L'ville here than any other team. Strong will have them at the top of the Big East in a couple years and is a great recruiter. They're probably only going to be a 5-7 win team this year, but if they can put together a couple upsets they could turn some heads recruiting.

Day was recruited as a SDE, which is the same position most of us have assumed Jones would play. I wonder if Kelly wants Jones for WDE?

Yeah, it seemed like Day and Schutt were competing for one spot, based on how things went down.

Interesting, to me, is that Kelly doesn't seem to hold a ton of value for the huge pure noseguard type of players. Cwynar will be the lightest starter on the defensive line, Nix was endlessly criticized for weighing too much, and ND appears to think the NT position is secure with depth despite the fact that the positional depth appears to be mostly guys who are 4-3 defensive tackle sized.

From my outside view, it sure looks like the Irish value athleticism on the interior line more than most coaches who run a 3-4.

So I won't even begin to guess where the defensive line recruits will be playing.

Which is odd, since Day is an SDE and Schutt was widely believed to be a pure DT. They likely wouldn't have been playing at the same spot had they both been taken.

I'd attribute it to the fact that we show a 4-3 as often as a 3-4. Given the choice between an athletic 3-tech DT who can play a passable 0-tech, or a massive 0-tech DT without much of a pass rush, it's probably no surprise that Kelly wants athleticism over size.

A lot of people underestimate Charlie. "It's only UL." He's going to sell "join us and be part of making it happen" to a number of talented recruits. Jones may not be one of them but I wouldn't consider it earthshaking if he did.

Coach Kelly will have them at the top of the country in a couple years and his staff is a great recruiting juggernaut.

As long as he's going to visit again, that's all that matters. That changes everything, no matter what he may or may not be thinking now.

Please, please, let's get Mom onto campus, to see how we'll take care of her son! Nobody can touch us then

Nix was criticized for being big, but soft. Now, he's not quite as big, but harder to move because of his strength. He's going to be a force.

They without question value athleticism over just girth, they want the players to move and cause problems.

Also ND isn't running a traditional 3-4 set and in fact they will be plenty of times that they are in the 4-3 defense as well.
