I didn't read everybody's posts but of those I did read everyone expected him to play either slot or corner. I no doubt could see him playing both of those positions and excelling, but I quite honestly can see this kid being one hell of a RB at Notre Dame. He does play the finest competition the state of Texas has to offer doesn't he? I'm pretty sure he picked Notre Dame because BK said if he wanted to be a RB he could be. This is one of those guys who BK wants because he's use to winning and has the attitude to never quit. If he wants, he can be a top notch RB.

I'm sure there are people out there somewhere who flat-out love Cam and really do think he is better than Huggins. But I don't think that someone talking up Cam or saying they think he can be a good player should be taken as a knock on Huggins. I am one who thinks Cam will be better than expected by the recruiting services, but I would very much like to get Huggins, too. I'm not saying Cam is better than Savon, just that I like Cam.

Great post

No worries fellas, I will leave the internet arguing analysis to you. I really do not have the time to keep up. I enjoy this site cause I like ND and their updates on recruits. Other than that the analysis on here sometimes is riddick. I never said anyone was better than the other. Although all indications of watching Cam's video, coming pretty close of being the best player in one of the toughest leagues in the nation, and having almost the same measureables in height and weight as savon(cam is actually heavier), but with faster 40 time and shuttle time. I would say their is no way to say if he is this or that, compared to Savon. I also would like to have Savon.

Anyone wanna roll a joint, melt into a couch and watch reruns of Irish games from the 88' season with me?

Seriously guys... can we all just get along?

Who the hell knows what will happen with these guys. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it... but really there are just too many variables... many of them completely unknown to really tell what will happen for sure.

I'd love to have both... just in case one doesn't pan out.

Great players...? Only time will tell!

I mean everyone one here including me was stoked about Shaq Evans. And looking at the tangibles there was no reason you could argue this kid shouldn't have been great... but then the intangibles took over ...and... he pooped right out of the program.

Once upon a Time in the Old West [true story actually], two politicians were campaigning in the same town---one of the big new ones like KC or Denver. They both were highly motivated dudes and disliked the other's opinions. The town had wooden boardwalks which were narrow. The street that day was full of mud. They were on a collision course on the same side. As they approached, one took a wide stance and addressed himself to the surrounding public. "I stand aside for no low-minded fool and traitor!!!" His opponent looked at him in the eye, and said: "Fortunately I DO!!!" He stepped off the path and waved the other on. ...... the original pwn. ...... so, being the wisdom-seekers that we are, we learn from history and become the bigger man ...... don't we???

Hey now boys, why the big fuss? I really like Cam McDaniel. He sure seems underrated to me. I watched his film and was impressed. His measurables look great. He is a proven champion. And he committed to Notre Dame immediately and brought a friend. I think he could be a very very effective back in Kelly's system.

And I would love to see he and Savon going head to head for reps, they would be awesome as a tandem or playing at the same time (Cam in slot?).

Running backs take a pounding and often get hurt. Two guys with great potential would be fantastic. Which is better? That one should wait until they arrive on campus (cross my fingers)

My post wasn't great, although I appreciate the thought. I kind of jumbled what I was trying to say. These are both great posts, though.

Explain in detail why him having the "fastest shuttle time in high school football history" is why he is better than Huggins and why he would be a better every down back? By the way that fastest time ever that everyone keeps mentioning is not even the one listed on the recruiting sites...odd.

Someone better tell BK there is no need to move Theo back to RB because we got McDaniel. The fastest shuttle time ever!

Yes, the "fastest shuttle time in HS history" has always bother me. It not listed on the recruiting sites and if you look at the times from the combine in SA last year he was not even in the top 10 in shuttle times? His size and strength will be a disadvantage at the next level. Watch the Trinity game in the playoffs.

Cam wins big award

Cam wins big award

According to ISD Cam won the Ford Player of the Year award for the top division in Texas. In one game they note he scored 5 TDs ---runs from scrimmage of 33.79,20,and 59 yds and an 80 yd punt return. Also considered was his work in the classroom and in public.

Not Bad Cam---keep it up for the next 4 years----Go Irish.

Sorry if this is a repost but it bears watching if you haven't seen it. I know I saw his junior year highlights but these are Cam's senior year highlights. If he had break away speed Cam is a 5* player. His balance is the best I've ever seen. His vision and cut back ability are both very elite as well. If he can break tackles and find seems in college the way he does in one of the top HS leagues in the nation... look out.

I'm certainly not a scout and my predictions aren't worth much, but I could totally see Cam being an incredible flex back that can get you 3-7 yards every play and get you those yards in a multitude of different ways. Anyone who has ever watched Kevin Faulk or Danny Woodhead for the Patriots knows what I mean by that. It is baffling that he wasn't more highly rated considering how he dominates such a high level of competition.

I agree 100% the kid has a natural ability and intangibles that if they can be taught take along time. It just seems to come natural to him

Whoooooeeeee!! If that's a second team all-state RB then #1 must have been incredible. CamMcD is everything that my brother said he was. And our good coach Kelly has already said that he runs better "downhill" than anyone we've got. I hope that no one on the board is doubting the quality of this athlete anymore.

This kid is a winner. I agree with the Danny Woodhead comparison, not just from the size and balance/shiftiness perspective but also the fact that he was clearly under recruited based on skill level. Cam clearly plays against some very good competition and his numbers speak for themselves. He will be awesome.

Like the rest of everyone here, I love this kid and I think he is truly special. I am also surprised he wasn't recruited harder by many other schools, because he is naturally gifted and is a special kind of kid. I am really looking forward to seeing him in a Notre Dame uniform. There is no doubt that this kid is uber talented and has the potential to be something special for us.

McDaniel looks like an absolute stud in the making. Too bad he wasn't an early enrollee because we could really use him in the spring with Roberson out. I am glad to see that McDaniel plays in a spread / shotgun offense, so his transition to the college game might be easier.

Also, did you all see the unbelievable block he gets on the punt return TD at the 4:42 clip??? Talk about a de-cleater!!!

A lot of our incoming frosh seem to be doing some serious work in the weight room to get ready for ND. Does anyone remember this happening in years past?

A common knock on McDaniel is that he won't be able to contribute in 2011 because he won't be physically ready. So much for that theory.

I hate to say it... but I think the only reason Cam isn't a 4* ATH with a sick offer list is that he is a short-ish white RB. It's the same reason Toby Gerhart was a 3* unranked RB even though he ran a sub-4.5 with incredible power and size.

I think this is an absolute steal and one of those guys you look back on later and say "how did so many people miss this guy?" Every class has a couple... whether it's a 0* Cody Grimm who walks on to VT or 0* Clay Mathews at USC. Hats off to the coaching staff.

Reading through the thread and I have to say that I agree. I think he will be a much better player than his ratings from the recruiting services.
