Hey, lets not let facts get in the way of a good story :)

Are you a Pearl Jam fan by chance?

On Savon... Many people on here were so high on him, then when we thought we had no chance, people said they'd rather have Amir. I think the whole board goes through this cycle as a type of coping mechanism. I feel that this whole board would be absolutely giddy with excitement if he came here.

I think most people, including myself, have always said Amir was a better fit for our offense than Savon because he could play at WR or RB. I think all of us also believe Savon is a very good prospect. I still maintain if I had to have one or the other I would rather have Amir. I think him going to USC may haunt us for years.

Lol..., you are correct; I remember hearing nothing but how awesome Savon is until things cooled and Amir showed a little interest. I have always liked Savon but I just felt we never really had a chance even though he has always had us in his favorites. I would be shocked, but elated if he chose to play at ND, but something tells me it'll be Rutgers.

Sounds like we all need group therapy.

Savon has the ability to be the game changing back we've lacked for several years. ND's some very good running backs (Darius Walker, Julius Jones, etc) over the last few year, but none of them were giving defensive coordinators nightmares. He would be an excellent pick up for this class.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Storytellers on VH1. You'll find quite a few of us on here.

I was really hoping Armando would be that game breaker, and I think with Kelly coaching Cam can be too. Adding Savon would be amazing because he can change games. Don't forget, competition breeds success. Can't wait for this class to grow on the field.

Huggins has favored the pro style offense, but there has to be something that is keeping him interested in us. The lure of ND might just land this kid. I sure as hell hope it does

I think Savon is a stud obviously. If I had to choose between Savon and Amir, I'm taking Savon. Amir is a more natural fit for our offense and can play multiple positions, but where else was he going to play? Ahead of Theo and Toma in the slot? Whle he "could've" played a few different positions, I'm not all together sure we needed him anywhere else. We are pretty loaded at WR. We need a game changing running back. Someone who can take the pressure off a young quarterback and make the defense respect both dimensions of our offense. Savon Huggins is a game changer. Robert Hughes is not a natural fit for a spread offense either and he played lights out for us in the end. Huggins has the power to run behind a pulling guard and the speed to take it to the edge on an option or counter run. This kid would take our offense to another level whereas Amir would have added speed to a dimension we are already fast in. Just my opinion. I think a lot of people turned on Savon when it looked like Amir was ND bound and we didn't have a chance with Huggins.

They turned on him? Or they simply felt that Carlisle seemed a likely verbal? Reading this thread and other, a lot of people were quite high on Huggins talent but they were down on the likelihood of him coming to ND at the time.

Still two weeks to dream ...

I don't know if there's such a thing as a "natural fit" in this offense. Kelly has shown the ability to change schemes and his play-calling in order to fit the personnel. In other places, he felt that a high-scoring, pass-first offense was the best way to win games. However, he may adjust his thinking at ND because he has the ability to recruit much better defensive players. I think Savon would be a great addition even though he's more of a power back.

Robert Hughes did very well as a Power back in this Offense.

Eh debatable.

Depends on your definition of "very well."

We need quickness and speed at the running back position. Quickness and speed, quickness and speed, quickness and speed.......

Exactly. Kelly will adjust to the players that he has.

For what...one possession vs. USC and one bowl game? Hughes hardly got any carries this year, and in many games didn't get any carries at all.

Now, you can say that it was b/c Hughes didn't run like a power runner until late in the year, but we can hardly point to Robert Hughes and tell Savon that is why he should come to SC. If anything, detractors will use Hughes as a reason NOT to come to ND.

I highly doubt Savon is coming. As was stated earlier, we don't run the offense he likes. And if he doesn't come, we have to hope that Cam Roberson will be the power back Kelly envisions him to be.

I would really love to see some Pistol formations in the future to take advantage of down hill schemes

I'm already cringing at the revisionist history fans are going to carry with them for years regarding Hughes.

He played well in mop up time against lowly Western Michigan, had one (two if you want to be generous) great series against USC (it was great though), and if we're going to be honest, not that great against Miami (who was a bad running defense team).

81 yards on 27 carries is below average. We can give him credit for "running hard" or "pounding the ball" or other such statements we say to try and make a performance better than it really is, but it was not that great.

Plus, 81 of those yards came off a 25 yard run in which he fumbled. Which means, he gained 2.1 yards per carry for the rest of the game.

Cierre had the same amount of yards in the game in 15 less carries. That's all you need to know.

Notre Dame needs speed at running back. It's that plain and simple.

But I would argue that Hughes' success toward the end of the season (running the way he did) showed that there can be a large role for a player like Robert/Savon in this offense.

He had his moments. But there were times I would scream at the tv " TAKE HIM OUT OF THE GAME!!!!!!"

If you want a power back , get someone like an owen schmitt *if there is anyone out there like that* that just bulldozes for that tough yard we need.

It's not always the numbers that matter as much as in-game situations. Hughes converted on a couple of key short-yardage situations in the Miami game, which is absolutely crucial. You need to have at least two RBs, and they need to complement each other.

Was it the Washington game where he took the direct snap on the 2pt play and basically carried 4 huskies into the endzone?

thats the same amount of loses they had last year! good for them :cbanana:

Correction , 5 is the number of wins Texas had in 2010. 7 is the number of loses.

Huggins is the icing on the cake of this recruiting class. I've been hoping for him since I saw his video.

Yeah, but he was clearly down before he made it across the goal line.

And I think it was Chris Stewart who basically grabbed his arm and pulled him into the end zone. I will say though that it was truly a great effort by Hughes to stay on his feet.

I can see Hughes as one of those guys who finally learned he is a power back, and has a solid NFL career.
