Really good premium article at ISD.com. The interview was with Savon's father Wendell. Savon seems to be set in his final 5 (Florida, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh) although USC is in hot pursuit. Wendell describes Savon's football schedule as very busy and overwhelming so it will be difficult to come up with a set plan for visits. As of right now the plan is for October 30th against Tulsa. They also plan on catching either the Army or Navy game away from South Bend.

IMO this weekends game sets up very important in our recruitment of Savon. Pittsburgh is a team in his top 5. A win over Pittsburgh this weekend could set us up on a fairly nice winning streak coming into the Tulsa game. Notre Dame will certainly hold a spot for this kid who claims to have NO leader at this point.

If Pitt runs all over us, I don't think that helps our cause too much. The Wanstache could pull a running back from one of the girls' interhall teams and she could rush for 1200 yards in the Big Least IMO. I think we'll need to establish our running game and slow down Pitt's to make a solid impression.

Also keep in mind that Jameel Poteat committed to the Wanstache. That may weigh in on Savon's decision...

Two questions
1) How do you pronounce Savon?

2) Does anybody know how consistant of a blocker Savon is?

i like the 3.7 GPA, its nice to see him getting it done on and off the field, also if academic strength plays a part in his decision we are obviously 1st

Aside from Poteat, Lewis and Graham are only sophmores. Pittsburgh has most of their offense in place. I agree Savon doesnt take into consideration whose committed where but early playing time will be important. Not likely in Pitt!
I think its a 3 team race between Notre Dame, Rutgers, and Florida with Rutgers as his leader.

That's great news. Originally it was looking like the Tulsa game was the most likely possibility. We should dominate this game and have no problems running the football. Any word on Miles Shuler coming with him?

I hope we secure this kid's commitment by some shred of luck.

The Hayes - Huggins punch would be awesome.

This is a minor point, but as an old teacher...someone earlier asked how to pronounce Savon's name. Listening to the film announcer earlier in the thread, I don't believe that the answer that the poster was given is correct. The announcer said: "sah-VON"---emphasis on the second syllable a la French. But the original post answerer was being logical as the other way is the normal way "Savon" is pronounced. Name means "soap-maker" --- so slippery that no defense can hold him I guess.

Getting these guys to commit would be huge. If we were just talking about taking 25, then we have plenty of room for Miles Shuler. He brings great speed and could play in the slot or in the defensive backfield. I like Justice Hayes but as we have seen, BK will play numerous backs to keep them fresh. With Cameron Roberson and Savon Huggins along side Justice Hayes, that would make for a special backfield. These two could potential be the last recruits for the offensive side of the ball, barring a late OL commit.

And yes Old Man Mike.... sah-VON is the way I have interpreted the pronunciation as well. I also like the "soap maker" meaning. Very fitting!!

Very happy to get this guy on campus this weekend. Hope his visit is a great one. Would love to get this guy and of course Shuler too, but I don't know what the likelihood of that is. But it's nice to see that he is in fact visiting for a home game against an opponent we should beat handily.

I believe he is still on campus. Likely will not hear anything until Monday.

Whoa, Nellie! What happened to my (typically esoteric and long winded) post on "Speaking French For Non-Francophiles?" It was "on board" long enough to elicit a response, but both are now gone. ¿Qué pasa?

Nutshell recap: In general, French has no accented syllables. In words that end with a consonant, the consonant is not pronounced. So ... "Savon," a la Francaise, would be more like "Sah-voh." Rules are made to be broken, though.

"Savon" is pronounced however his parents chose.

Oh, yeah, he's talented and he'd be a great addition to the ND community.

It went great. The interview is with Savon's father Wendell. He said Notre Dame did very well for themselves with this visit and Savon can see himself playing within this offense. He got a chance to hang out with the guys and talk with Brian Kelly and some of the other coaches.

They still plan on taking their visits but ND sits very well.

Wendell also noted that Notre Dame is recruiting Savon as an "every down back." That confuses me because BK has never had an every down back.

Very happy to hear that his visit went well. He should visit some more schools.., hopefully his visit to ND will stick well in the back of his mind. I guess we will see what happens.

He also plans to see either the Navy game or the Army game at Yankee stadium. He has been to the campus twice now and another ND visit will put us in a very good position. That will be on his own dime so the interest is certainly there.

Any chance we would try Justice as a WR if we got Huggins or would we just use both as a 1-2 punch?

Nothing is out of the realm of possibility but it would be a very nice 1-2 punch.
