The things other than money that attracted Kelly to LSU are still there. It's a historic program in a conference that hasn't lost much of its identity in realignment and still enjoys a lot of official support. It's a still good job with a lot of positives.

I think LSU fans are not different from fans of other major college programs, tho, in that they haven't fully come to grips with the effect of NIL and portal-related parity on the W-L record. The CFB universe was almost unanimous when he was hired in calling this a bad fit. Anything less than a natty was gonna make it end this way.
It's arguably the best job of all. Zero in-state competition. It's Ohio State in the middle of SEC territory.

This is why Andy Staples continues to be one of the best when it comes to covering CFB.

I dunno, I think thats a ridiculous take

Q: Does "fit" make it easier to win?

A: No!! The blueprint was there and waiting for someone else to follow, Brian Kelly blew it up...

good grief... the "fit" isn't a proper Cajun accent, its playing hard nose football and being someone recruits believe in

yeah fit matters... culture matters even more now in the era of NIL. If you dont have a culture to buy into... you've got nothing

I laud LSU for having the intelligence to make this move now. Mitigate the damage this guy can do. He is a qb killer, neglects special teams, lazy recruiter, and recklessly arrogant. A terrible hire that likely costs Woodward his job also. When it went down, it had the feel that Woodward wanted the coaching search over so settled on Kelly. Kudos to Nuss for deflecting him in those clips a few posts ago.

It’s wild how I went through LSU’s entire 2026 class and haven’t heard of a single guy. Unironically shopping down a different aisle lol. These guys are all going to other SEC schools if they decommit.

One piece of shrapnel that can be easily dodged:

When people say “but muh Brain Kelluh won at ND, and couldn’t at LSU, Es ee cee was too hard”

Remind them the pinnacle of both stops was the exact same: a Citrus Bowl trophy.

*Also his win percentage at LSU was actually higher than at ND

Horka is such a dope

He got that from Tiger Droppings... he could have put quotes on that tweet and attributed it to the poster and it would have been 1000% funnier

(I know this because I've been monitoring Tiger Droppings for the past 24 hours because its fun to me as a lunatic)
Horka isn't just a dope in my opinion. He seems like a genuine douche bag. A lot of his posts are just to incite/upset fans. He is always looking for an angle. He covered Kelly for roughly 5 months. Sit this one out, Horka.

Look at a picture of BK when he was hired at ND and a pic of him today.

Aging is scary.

So this will be unpopular, and I’m not defending the guy. But he DID rebuild this program. Yeah, he was a shit fit at LSU. But I can see him making a program like BC or Rutgers somewhat formidable. I suspect we haven’t seen the last of Ol purple face…

He did some good things here, but a lot was also done by Swarbrick for him and I give a lot of credit to Elko, Lea, and obviously Freeman once he took over as HC. I give BK like...25-40% credit for the actual rebuild. When BK was forced to look outside his buddy pool and brought in Elko/Lea that was the real turnaround.
