USC fans think they cracked the code and “there are virtually no other schools who would agree to this arrangement” (a non con game in October/November)

Besides you know, other famous rivalries like Clemson/South Carolina, Georgia/Georgia Tech, Florida/Florida State, Kentucky/Louisville.

I sort of get USC's concern about coming to South Bend in October, especially now that they're making (typically) three other trips east for Big Ten games. But that's just about the travel (and, again, we do that sort of thing all the time). The notion of "not playing a nonconference game in October/November" is baloney. There is no problem for them in the years we go to their place.

What they're not saying is they'd probably like to move the UCLA game to Thanksgiving weekend. And also maybe to not have to play their two biggest rivals before flying to Indiana for the Big 10 championship game if they could ever make it.

Play them week one every year. Who cares? Play them. If we lose USC and Michigan both from the majority of our schedules that’s our two largest and most historic rivals. Clempson doesn’t have that same juice. Nor does Miami, regardless of how good that rivalry was 30 years ago.

The unfortunate thing is that they hold the cards in regard to continuity at this point. We sort of have to concede some things if we want to keep the rivalry going.

Considering what ND has done the last two years.....

I like the idea of playing them opening weekend every year.
Big time matchup on paper without the big time road atmosphere. We get credit for a big win even though it's nothing compared to traveling to a SEC school.

I'd much rather open up in LA than College Station or Bama, but they need to re-arrange some of these games.

2029 looks insane right now to open.
-USC (maybe)
-Bama
-at USF
-at Texas
-at NC St

We'll have a 64 team playoff by 2029 so it'll fine.

They want to extend the series by 1 year and play the game to open the season in LA... tell them two year extension and last game of the season at ND
Exactly. What a chickenshit response by them “Oh we extended the series to another year so it’s obvious we want to continue” Bullshit, if this season’s game was in LA & next season in South Bend, there’s no way they extend it.

Fuck em, call their bluff -- playing ND is the only time they can sell out their stadium most years. We will sell out if we play Minnesota. Hit their bottom line and watch them still suck.

We own the series
We own the most recent decade+

The B1G currently does not keep an open date at the end of the year. This forced the Apple Cup to early season and possible end of the Civil War. So I’m not sure “play UCLA” makes sense. ACC and SEC keep open rivalry weekend dates, meaning someone not already committed to a set rival could theoretically schedule an end of year game.

This logically comes back to Stanford, though you would need a similar (attempted) deal in that it doesn’t count towards ACC requirement. Boston College and Miami as well.

Funny enough LSU (and OU) are the only teams without historical rivalries in the SEC that week.

Riley already knows his chances of winning the B1G are slim and much tougher than winning the PAC12 when it was a thing. Adding another L playing ND makes getting into the playoffs that much harder. He can take his soy latte and avocado toast and shove it.

Although I really hope the two sides can work out a long-term deal, it really is very satisfying to see the almost-unanimous dragging of USC/Lincoln Riley by CFB for acting like the cowards they are.

Playing OU on an annual basis would be pretty neat, IMO.

I’d hope for a week 1-3 home and away to continue as I go to more game in LA than South Bend but if they’re ducking to avoid L’s then fill the next 7 years with home and away with UCLA, SDSU, ASU plus Oregon in SoFi and Cal in Vegas for a Shamrock. While they pick up an extra B1G game at Rutgers.

Chris Ash revenge angle to scheduling, I like it.
