Wait, we scored more than we gave up in 2016?

ND should’ve been 8-4 or 9-3 based on advanced metrics, I think.

Not only did they have a generationally bad DC, they also had terrible injury luck, had a HC that totally fucked the QB battle and in turn screwed up the whole locker room, AND they had terrible turnover luck. Basically every fumble that hit the ground bounced the wrong way.

And yet, 7 out of 8 losses were one-score games, whereas 3 of the 4 wins were comfortable leads.

That was my first thought as well. It looks like the Nevada and Army games were two anomalies as we put up a shit ton of points on both and somehow didn't give up many scores at all. Among the 8 losses we had we were in it for all of them except USC too, the other 7 were all 1 score games. Those two factors explain how we still managed to score more than we gave up.

This contract extension should yield mythical recruiting championships and nothing else.

Oh, and I hope Coach Free keeps wearing all white gym shoes now more than ever since Belichick is going to have UNC hoodies with sleeves cut off.

Yeah. We lost by 8 to Michigan State, 7 to Stanford and NC State, 3 each to Texas, Duke and Va. Tech, and by 1 to Navy. That's seven losses by 32 points combined. We beat Army by 38.

Was a weird year. We had a decent offense - hence the blowouts against weak teams - but the defense sucked and in close games Kizer would try force it too much. We were definitely better than 4-8 though.

I run a rinky dink trivia night at a small local bar and one of the sports questions tonight was “who is the highest paid football coach in the state of Indiana?”

Majority of the people are older and are a month behind news, so put Cignetti. They are also majority IU fans.

Felt satisfying to announce, “Sorry, that would be Marcus Freeman.”

I demand to know when and where. I want to dominate your bar trivia.

*Allegedly the highest paid football coach in Indiana. You know, since we don't have to disclose salaries like public schools.
In truth, it's a given considering Cignetti is pretty new to the FBS HC scene, and I can't imagine Purdue is paying much for the shit they put on the field this year...I'd feel really bad for them if they're paying a lot for Odom.

btw, Cignetti says "Google him," so I did today. Not all that impressed bro. You've essentially been an FCS HC for basically 13 years, and before that you were stuck as just a position coach for almost 30 years going back to the damn 80s. You'd think the guy is the second coming of Saban the way he talks about himself. We better crush those fuckers Friday.

What I love about Freeman is he's clearly placed an emphasis on speed and playing physical. Kelly's teams had fast players on occasion but it almost always felt we were slow overall. My brother went to the Virginia game and mentioned in person the team speed (especially the db's) was unlike any team he's seen for ND. He's made some mistakes but the dude is a winner and my favorite coach since Holtz.
