You could at least waited a day before you crapped on the news.
I didn’t crap on anything. I fully support the decision. He’s deserving of the extension and the opportunity to stay for a long time. I’m excited he’s here to stay, and think it’s great for the team and the program.
AND
All excuses are now removed. The dumb shit has to stop.

Both things can be true.

I'm very positive on this. While he's not there yet, I think Freeman is showing all the early traits of being an elite head coach. He's wildly competitive, connects well with players, and appears to have a borderline elite ability to put together a staff. Based on what I've seen, he's probably still the best chance ND has to snag the Urban Meyer of his generation.

Also, I have no idea if it's directly tied to Freeman's rapport with the administration or just a happy circumstance, but I've never been more certain that ND is committed to winning a championship in my lifetime.

Yeah he's shown me a lot this year post-NIU, his demeanor as a leader has improved immensely. It also can't be understated what a great representative of the university he is, and how that lends itself to more institutional support.

I’ve had a crazy feeling about Freeman since the day he became the DC at ND. He has that genuine feel to him and that appeals to kids in this generation. I agree with greyhammer when it comes to the assistants. Golden said it outright when he accepted the DC position. And a previous “higher up” came back to work for him. I’d say that tells you about who he is. Notre Dame should do whatever it takes to keep him.

I remember listening to this podcast in July 2021 and thinking Freeman was absolutely incredible. It was his first podcast appearance since taking the DC job. Immediately sounded like a guy who understood what ND was all about

Great move for the Irish. Freeman has worked his ass off and put this program in a great spot. Well deserved.

But if Ryan Day leaves or gets canned?
Head Coach Chip Kelly promises to smash Michigan with his loosy goosy hi-octane offensive scheme..

never get the impression OSU fans are super high on MF. Maybe if he won a Natty at ND they might change their tune
Yeah, many don't think he's up to the task yet, and some are still pissed about his comments 1st year when he said if he could go back in time he would have chosen ND over OSU.

I am happy for him.
He needs to keep doing a good job getting the best coordinators and position coaches.
Need to look at DL and STs and QB - are our guys the best? If so keep them, if not get the best in.

Hopefully in Freeman’s contract he’s allowed 3-4 academic passes per year for recruiting and some type of verbiage to allow underclassmen to transfer in

All of the above. There has been a noticeable change and accruing changes since Freeman took over the program. I don't know if it's the new president, new coach, new NIL-era or all of the above, but I've never been more convinced everyone is in alignment towards building the best CFB team possible.

I would like to see the result of Friday night before I say too much, but I’m glad they got it done.

He has shown a lot of traits of what makes a really good college HC.

I'd imagine that Freeman got some leeway in the contract with recruiting otherwise I doubt he would of signed an extension

Saw the news last night.

Have to admit, "recruiting" didn't come to my mind or occur to me at all until coming here this morning. And I sure as shit don't give a damn about what happens if Ohio State cans Ryan Day. Seems like that's a them problem.

Nothing is certain but ND has made the necessary moves to show they value their HC, his staff and the entire operation by committing the funds/support of the university. Freeman has to realize he's in an incredible position for the next decade. He has assembled an excellent staff, he has facilities in process and the NIL program is growing stronger with every subsequent win.

We need to see some big time acquisitions from the portal to further cement where ND is in this arms race. Signing a 4 yr extension is hopefully a precursor of things to come.

You hit the nail on the head IMO.
