I've been enjoying the snippets of his pregame/halftime speeches we've been seeing from the Irish Access videos. One thing I noticed about both the USC and IU games was that he used the message "Give everything for Notre Dame." For IU in particular, he said "Give everything you've got in your heart for this place."

Strongly reminded me of Holtz's mysticism and I'm really glad to hear that sort of reverence for the institution in his vernacular when speaking to the team. It's a small thing but I think it's a really powerful message to a bunch of bought in college-aged men.
I don't think it's a small thing at all, in this day and age. Reminding people that they are part of something bigger than themselves is one of the most powerful things a leader can do.

Hell i would even add to that list 2010, 2011 and 2014 where our last savior coach with a million years of experience lost 5 games.
This season is actually pretty similar record wise and team performance wise to 2017 where we went 10-3 (something we have a chance to do this year) and that was in year 8 of Brian Kelly.

There was always going to be some learning on the job, but I am surprised by the utter lack of patience with a bright young head coach winning 9 games and then potentially 10 games year 2 while working through some of that learning. 9-10 wins a year is obviously not the end game, but the impatience seems short sighted and somewhat unrealistic at times.

Parker was incredibly maddening to watch and listen to this year, but MF is not going to publicly bash anybody…just isnt. Go watch him talk about Dave Clawsons comments when asked about it by RG3. He’s all class. I suspect he understands the shortcomings, will give Parker a year to improve and show he is capable and if he doesnt we will win 10 games next year which will be enough for Freeman to retain his job at which point he would move on from Parker.
This was last December when everybody was talking shit because we only won 9 regular season games. I reiterated the same while everybody was losing their shit after the NIU loss but looks like most of that entire time period has been completely erased. Anybody yea, I wasnt the only one who could see the forest for the trees while everybody was wetting their panties. There were a few others.

I dont have the time or energy to read back through pages and pages of nonsense, but wondering where all the panty wetters who have done nothing but bitch about freeman and had no perspective or patience to let the man learn on the job have gone.

It was obvious from day 1 he was intelligent and would work relentlessly until he figure’d it out if given time, and now that he’s clearly got command of the program, just wondering who will raise their hand and step out of the woodwork to admit they’re a whiney bitch and were wrong…
Raises hand and joins the whiney bitches line

Consistently see you defending him, and I love it.

My anger after NIU was with RL being so awful, not really a MFMF problem. I guess recruiting him and the lack of talent on the team at both QB and WR to succeed, but that has been institutional since Jimmy Clausen.

MFMF is different. I embrace that IT factor he exudes. RL is the same as week 2 but as a team we've learned how to operate within it to succeed. That's a MFMF (Denbrock too) quality that shouldn't be overlooked. You can see that kind of adjustment in all 3 years.

Man I'm as on the Freeman train as humanly possible but trying to "I told you so" anyone who was critical or having strong doubts this September seems silly.

My brother in fandom, he lost to NIU in his third year. You SHOULD have been critical of his performance. Thank God Freeman was critical of himself.

Wait, are you claiming your hands have been clean in terms of being supportive of MFMF right along?

Nope I have questioned him and I am not afraid to admit it.

But there’s no way he was gonna get out coached by Curt Cignetti.

Huge difference between measured criticism when warranted of any coach, and the childish, petulant short sighted whining and calling for his head, he is out of his league, horrible coach, fire him on the plane bullshit this site erupts into. My stance had always been we got a superstar, but he is young and green. We could either let him marinate here and take some of the ups and downs in stride, or let him go and in 3 years watch him killing it somewhere else because we werent patient and let him walk.

If i had to endure all the nonsensical bullshit for months from people that couldnt look a half mile down the road and whined like little bitches, then they get to endure knowing they were wrong and need to re-evaluate the vacuum they measure everything within.

If you are trying to say the behavior on this board was warranted, it wasn’t. It was unrealistic and lacked common decency and perspective.

Exactly. Some dude on here was legit calling him a “DEI hire” which so beyond the pale of legitimate criticism.

We’ve had a number of whiney bitches on this site. From ex-players, to political blowhards, to Dabo lovers, to teachers (scary af), to hot wife claimers, 3 star haters, and dingleberries. One thing they all have in common: they suck.

Board still exists, thankfully. The haters take an L every day. That’s their karma.
And that’s just Koon.

I can honestly say that the only place on these boards where petulant whining should be permissible (and instant reproach) is in the game day threads. Otherwise, everything else should be considered an argument you are willing to die on the hill for.
There'd be bodies all over the damn place and no one left to bury them.

Remember, Freeman took the call from NIUs head coach after the loss. That is in testament to his character to have the self awareness to admit, "I can be better."

BK would never take that call. He would claim he's too busy getting his team ready for their next "business trip".

A team takes on the persona of their coach. And I fucking love Freeman's persona. "Fuck you football" but if you beat me, tell me how because I sure as shit won't let it happen again.

Well, there also. However, when it comes to sports, the game day threads should be permissible for saying erratic things during the game. I know I've said especially dumb things in that space.
I stay out of them completely to avoid subjecting myself to the nonsense that goes on in there

This is "look at me" Karen bullshit. Somebody wanting attention and got it. Also got blocked.

He was also called a coward by one poster after the NIU loss and it was said in same post he couldn't lead, which is man baby toddler stuff after your sports team lost.

Freeman and this team have done everything to piss on the crybabies and imbeciles ever since that NIU game. It's so far back in the rearview mirror at this point. It creates an agenda and narrative to pair it with Marshall, when they're probably more mutually exclusive games than they are linked. Either way, here we sit on the edge of facing UGA in a second playoff game on the heels of a contract extension.

I think life in general gets better when you get over yourself and understand 1) there is a center of the universe and 2) you ain't it.
