I find it a bit crazy UCLA is giving Chip the boot. His results on the field are about as good as they can expect, unless they have serious concerns about the future with his terrible high school recruiting which seems to be a valid concern. Once Dante transfers, there will be nothing but 3 stars on that roster. He really built them back up and now they're going back to the dumpster with a tougher BIG 10 schedule. Have fun playing in Minnesota in November, bozos.

Has a single one of these show me the NIL money recruits panned out? Not a rhetorical question, I'm really asking because I can't think of any.

Dante looked really good early on imo, wonder if they put too much on his plate after a fast start? Doesn't help that UCLA in general lacks talent. Their OL had Dante running for his life quite a bit.

Still think Dante will be a very good QB if he either (1) finds an OL at UCLA, or (2) transfers to a stable situation.

Keon Coleman in the portal for sure.
In terms of recruits, it’s early as they’re just in their sophomore years of the NIL era. A&M has plenty of sophomores that went there for the bag like Walter Nolen who look the part.

Dante wouldn’t get into ND now even though he would have 1 year ago due to one of NDs own special rules right?
If he Came in without demands for NIL and was just one of the players I’d take him in for sure.

I was thinking purely for recruits out of high school.

The portal is much different because you are paying for a proven commodity (i.e. Sam Hartman games 1-4). Doesn't mean it will always work out though. (i.e. Sam Hartman games 5-10).

alot of the big NIL kids are true freshmen and mostly are redshirting tbf, next year you will see some impact

Looking at the '23 class, the most obvious one is Kayden Proctor. He was set for Iowa. Bama bags came a flowin'. He's been starting for Alabama all year, albeit struggling.

I do actually find it surprising at the lack of stud freshman this year though. I remember one Oregon commit, Jurion Dickey, stud 5 star WR was openly admitting he was going to the top bidder for a variety of reasons. He hasn't registered a single catch.

At some point, probably soon, these collectives are going to chill out a bit on the high schoolers.

Caleb Downs has played a lot for Bama (not sure if he was a huge NIL guy but lets presume he was to some degree) who has had good and bad moments. NFL scouts love his potential though

Chip's made enough money that he won't need to settle for a coordinator position unless he just has that incurable itch to be on the sidelines.

I know true freshman QB are typically kinda ass and UCLA is kinda ass, but for a player who everyone said was a “gap erasing” QB talent, hasn’t he been like extra assey this year?

Will be curious to see what happens with Dante if indeed Chip Kelly is gone.

Degree of difficulty goes up considerably next year for UCLA, which somehow plays @LSU, home vs. Oregon, @Penn State back-to-back-to-back in Sept./Oct.

I don't think these deals are totally front loaded, the collectives can't possibly be that dumb, can they? I guess no one knows since nothing is public. But Dante probably got a signing bonus plus his monthly and that'll stop when he hits the portal.
His "team" can shop for another deal or stick around thru spring to see how he fits in with the new staff.
What a pain in the ass it must be to coach players who can leave and get paid every off season.

At least Dante's family got paid. Now they don't have to worry about the decision of putting their son in a school with a poor OL. Hope the check cashed and Dante's dad is living his best life.

This. I seriously doubt Dante going there had anything to do with Chip, the offense, winning or the supporting cast it was all about the bag
