Just watched The Sound of Freedom today. It's a heart wrenching movie that dives into the sickness of child trafficking. I highly recommend it to raise awareness, but it's not a good time.
Going to see it friday

I watched The Departed and American Gangster this week. No idea how I'd overlooked TD, but it won the flipping Oscar for best picture in '07. Lots of talent in that cast. Matt Damon has such innocent choir boy looks, that when he plays a villain, he's just psycho sort of creepy, like Todd from Breaking Bad. Very good and fun to watch. American Gangster was also a great watch. Denzel is always good.

Back to Star Wars just briefly. Has the theory that Darth Vader made the whole entire franchise (and thus without him the prequels sucked) been kicked around much.
I think Vader is the best movie villain of all time and they just could not make up for his absence.

Ridley Scott has been hit or miss lately but his historical pieces are usually extremely entertaining (even if inaccurate). I'm pretty excited about this.
I know several people who loved The Last Duel but I thought it was just fine. I'll admit I couldn't get past Ben Affleck in blonde hair

We've ALL seen some ridiculously bad films. I understand an indie film with rookies making it being bad, but major studios with big name directors, huge budgets, experienced writers, stars, and often as not, successful franchises behind them, and they STILL put out an embarrassingly bad piece of garbage. How? How does someone during the pre-production or story writing stage not realize "Hey guys! We're just making a complete disaster of a shitshow film here that's going to insult our target audience and be embarrassing for all of us to have been associated with?"
So sometimes I listen to a movie podcast, even though I wouldn’t classify myself as a movie buff, and I learned while back that if you make a film and it bombs in screen tests post-production, that instead of releasing the film, they can get a sizeable write off for it. This came up recently with the movie Batgirl, which cost a cool 90 mil to produce.

Took the kids on a rainy day last week to see Elemental. It was fine. I don’t get why Disney feels it’s necessary to push agendas, but I also don’t get why people get so pissed off about a lesbian or gender fluid character being in the movie for half a scene, either. It didn’t add anything to the movie, nor did it detract from the plot. I kept waiting for the big controversy…it was like when your area gets out under a tornado watch and then the storms all weaken as they arrive. All that build up…for nothing.

The movie itself was fine. Not Pixar’s worst, but definitely far from their best. My kids enjoyed it.

Saw Sound of Freedom.

It was as expected. Emotional. But that was expected.

Worth the watch? I never even heard of this movie until a couple days ago
I think it’s worth watching. I don’t think the information surprise me, or things that happened in the movie. You could definitely wait for it to stream somewhere. The story is good. Of course it’s not entirely accurate from the real story. But close enough.

The audience says so at an all timer level

Is this something with a poltical/religious bent? It's very weird to have never heard of a movie, it have an audience score that high, and the filmmakers are all people who have nothing to their name except some straight to vod duds.

Not that there's anything wrong with everyone consuming or promoting whatever media they want, I just don't want to start a movie and find out it's trying to convert me after 25 minutes of my time.

Yeah very bizarre. The trailer certainly doesn't look like a 99% all-timer to me.

Some QAnon ties, but like no one is going to be "pro-human trafficking". If it's a rounabout way to make people more aware of human tracking then so be it. Probably missing the bigger issue but it's a tough message to be against lol.

Rolling Stone, New York Times, and WaPo have all criticized it, so you know it must be good.
I honestly haven't seen it yet, so I'll just say I've heard it was emotional and powerful.

Yes, it's being sold as "far right conspiracy", so the MSM won't promote it.

Much like how "What is a Woman" was wildly popular with audience scores.

It's not a political or religious movie, but it does repeat the mantra that "God's children are not for sale."

That's as religious or political as the movie gets.

Yeah or more likely is that the only people who have ever heard about whatever that movie is are people that are already going to give it high scores because of it's message.

I had no idea what Sound of Freedom was, but watching the trailer it's obviously not a "great" movie, so seeing a 99% audience score is a dead giveaway that it's agenda driven in some fashion.

"I watched the trailer and it's obviously not good although the audience of 5k+ is rating it perfectly"...

Ok then.

i seem to remember previously Clint Eastwood made a terrible movie about a train hijacking that had a similar good review bombing online as part of a wider culture war
