Singer is saying that ND is pursuing former BYU WR Kody Epps in the transfer portal.

If I’m not mistaken, he scored two touchdowns in the Shamrock Series game last season.
*Florida State has entered the chat with an NIL offer*

Reading the Utah press BYU sounds completely blindsided. Epps was their #1 returning WR, a face of the program type player, recruited Kedon Slovis to transfer there, etc. They strongly suspect NIL tampering of course. But if Colorado, Ole Miss and Auburn are in the mix, there’s probably good reason.

Seems like he’d be a great add for us but wouldn’t get hopes up.

Sampson on II podcast theorized that Bryant might be a backup QB option for ND due to his links with Gino

O'Malley begging people to not think about this guy coming from an FCS school on the II pod.

That's where we are with S recruiting.

It was Prister & that’s not what he meant.
He said you have to look at HS offers & transfers offers differently.
The kid has played actual D1 football & now has legit offers from major P5 programs. That trumps his HS FCS offers.

Huh?

He has big-time SEC offers. Also he'd be able to help us this coming season, unlike a high school kid who wouldn't even be on campus for more than a year. This doesn't have much to do with (current) safety recruiting.

No, it was O'Malley. I'm listening to it right now. O'Malley spoke, then Sampson, then Prister.

Uyeyama made a great point on the ISD pod about leveling up when transferring. Paraphrasing, but the jest was generally how much easier it is for skill players to make the transition versus how different it is for linemen to adjust to the size and speed of leveling up in competition.

Cain Madden is exhibit A everyone likes to use, but id have a hard time coming up with any guys who were successful making that transition.

I can’t remember which site’s podcast it was, but they rattled off a bunch of names of guys who transferred from FCS schools and played at P5 just last year, all who very successfully (some drafted). I remember them mentioning a FSU DL who led them in sacks who came from Albany & the WF DL who got drafted day 2, who came from Richmond.
Both those schools are in the same conference as Rhode Island.

Seems like a LOT of FCS offensive tackles always project/transition well to the NFL, and you wonder why those guys couldn't/wouldn't transfer while in college to a higher level.

Wonder if it's different for the elite athletes at OT with strength that translates regardless of level, versus the interior OL/DL where the difference in handling IDL is immense

O’Cyrus Torrence made the jump from UL to Florida this past season and was selected in the second round two weeks ago.

But to your point, he is generally an exception.

These numbers are likely to go down in coming years as players continue to "transfer up" but in 2022 there were 20 FCS players taken in the NFL draft and another ~35 Group of Five players taken in the NFL draft.

Bottom line is that you could construct a roster full of 100% NFL caliber players simply by raiding the lower divisions of football.

Dalton Kincaid got his start at University of San Diego an FCS school before transferring to Utah.
