Given the state of our program. We had to give a 7 year deal to get any legitimate coach.

If the deal averages over 4 million per year, yes at first glance that would put him in the top 15 highest paid. But how much is his year 1 salary? It's a 7 year deal, his ranking in the highest paid list will likely go down over the next couple of years.

Excited about this coaching hire. Seems to be a perfect fit.

I mean, with the Shrews hire, Starling could still return, couldn’t he? Sure, he committed to Cuse…but is he not still on campus?
I wouldn't count on it, he reportedly had a strong relationship with Adrian Autry and him taking over for Boeheim sounds like it actually helped their cause.

I hope I'm wrong, but if not, just pray he settles for a ton of threes when he plays the Irish....dude has so much upside it's unbelievable. If he ever develops that jump shot he'll be lethal.

I hope they give him time.
They have to. The cupboard is completely bare right now. Any roster we put together for the next 1-2 years will be piecemeal, have to give him three years IMO to recruit, pull in some transfers and ultimately establish his culture. This is a ground-up rebuild, and any Irish hoops fan knows we are likely in for a world of hurt in 2023-24, and likely the year after that, at minimum, at no fault of Shrews.

If he can somehow overachieve, and we get a NCAA bid, it really proves his merit.

These are my expectations, at least. I just don't see the transfer portal alone getting us to where we need to be in the short term with the admissions hurdles. Not every player has the academic fortitude that Josh Atkinson and Cormac Ryan had from an undergraduate perspective; they were "unicorns."

Would be huge. He attended a bunch of games in the trailer park they call Bloomington this year. Would be a major flex if he pulled that off.

I don't follow Bball recruiting like I used to. Can someone tell me how the #1 recruit in Indiana (#3 nationally?!?!) ends up at Cincy? Typically IU, Purdue, MSU, OSU, UM, and UK have strangleholds on these types of kids. Occasionally, you'll see them end up at UNC or somewhere outside of the region I just listed, but it's rare to my knowledge. What happened here with this kid?

Edit: I just realized he hasn't committed yet. But why is Cincy the presumed leader?

He’s not committed to Cincy. He has crystal ball predictions to Cincy but those are from months ago.

Well stated. Grateful for the Brey era but even the staunchest Brey apologist has to admit he left the program in ashes upon his exit. Hopefully, Jack has laid out a plan w/ Shrewsbury w/ both realizing it’s a long-term situation.

It's a 7 year contract - so sounds like both are realistic with length of fixing

They got the stump of maybe the biggest sycamore tree ever and the taxidermied biggest bull maybe ever well worth the trip.

There is an assistant coach at Cincy who is a former Indiana Elite AAU coach. I think his dad is the director of IE, actually. Flory plays for Indiana Elite…

High school football in Texas and high school basketball in Indiana are basically the same thing.
Yep, 12 of the 13 largest HS gyms are in Indiana. New Castle recently expanded to 8,400.
Not sure who first said it, "In 49 states, it's basketball. But this is Indiana"

I wish I was old enough to remember Hoosier Hysteria, when the high school basketball playoffs was one big tournament. Not separated into classes. I heard that was peak basketball.

The regional and semi-state games the past couple weeks have featured some packed houses. Southern Indiana is still pretty close to what it must’ve been like in the single-class era. We’d occasionally hit up rivalry games down in the Washington/Vincennes area when I was at ISU and it would be standing-room only in a 4,000+ seat facility.

I think the 4A championship game this Sunday will be one of the most heavily attended state finals games in Indiana in quite some time. Kokomo will bring a huge contingent and Ben Davis should bring a decent crowd also.

I could give a pre game pep talk going to the Wolves Den, but if I was the visitor at a place called The Hatchet House, I don't really care what sport we're playing, chances are we're going to get beat.

Not that it really matters anymore, but I was told that Northwestern’s coach was about to interview/did interview for the job

Chris Collins would have been a loser choice. He's made only 2 NCAA tournaments and has a Big Ten record of 66-121 in his 10 years there. He would have gotten fired if not for this miracle year.

When I was a freshman and sophomore, the sectionals were still played during the day and they would bus us to the games. My junior year they moved the games to the evenings. Algebra or hoops? Hmmm

Top 100 forward Carey Booth has requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent with Penn State in wake of Micah Shrewsberry's departure for Notre Dame, Lions247 has confirmed.

Booth committed to Penn State on Aug. 24, picking the Nittany Lions over Ohio State, Texas, Stanford and Vanderbilt. He signed with the Nittany Lions during the fall.

I guess we'll see how much he was committed to Shrewsberry and not PSU.

If Shrewsberry brings Imes, Booth, and his son, where does the class rank compared to ND's last 10 classes?

This isn't rhetorical, I'm seriously asking. I didn't follow basketball recruiting much in the past (might have to start now though)

From a ranking standpoint? Relatively middling.
