Jon Rothstein is reporting that Cormac Ryan is not returning to ND.

destination unknown
Can't blame him there. I would expect him to take a leap to the professional level. IIRC, he was flirting with the idea of playing overseas before ultimately deciding to return last year.

His IG shows that he has declared for the draft and entered the portal, with his stated goal to play professionally. I like Cormac, but I don't see where his game translates to the NBA, so I'd imagine his professional career would be overseas. But I wish him luck, he played hard and had several good games and moments, especially in the 21-22 season.

There's no doubt the was our emotional leader, dude never quit and always played hard, and there were several moments in his career where he got hot and couldn't miss (see Bama in the first round of last year's tournament). I felt like he was an underrated defender, too.

Wish him well wherever he ends up, I enjoyed watching him play.

Technically this was wrong, he could return to ND but that seems to be highly unlikely given the wording of his "thank you" instagram message.

Really, why wouldn't a guy with two degrees from ND pass on a final year of eligibility and play for $$ overseas.

Maybe the B stands for something else.

That’s a bummer to not get back CM but obviously given what we hired compared to where we all thought we’d be it is probably best for both parties to move on.
Best of luck, really enjoyed watching someone with heart.

When you guys talk about Indiana high school basketball, these are basically the visuals that goes through every person's head not from Indiana.

The regional and semi-state games the past couple weeks have featured some packed houses. Southern Indiana is still pretty close to what it must’ve been like in the single-class era. We’d occasionally hit up rivalry games down in the Washington/Vincennes area when I was at ISU and it would be standing-room only in a 4,000+ seat facility.

I think the 4A championship game this Sunday will be one of the most heavily attended state finals games in Indiana in quite some time. Kokomo will bring a huge contingent and Ben Davis should bring a decent crowd also.

Great call Macdaddy!

True but if you're from Indiana, it's not even in the Top 10.

No one knew about Larry until 5 years after HS.
So true. Big George, Oscar, Rick Mount, Damon, Alford, and Plump quickly come to mind.

Greg Oden and Mike Conley are legends for my generation. The Zellers—especially our own Luke and the shot he hit to win it all against Plymouth.

Larry wasn’t a highly regarded high school player??

He was by college coaches, he had 50+ offers but He didn't make the AP's First, Second or Third Team All State squads.

As opposed to what the movie Hoosiers tried to suggest, Indiana HS basketball was dominated by teams of the North Central Conference and not very friendly to the David's of the state. Indy teams didn't even get much pub if they didn't make it to the Finals. Springs Valley where Bird went was much like Milan who Hoosiers was based on... only Bird's team did not win the state championship (nor was it close).

Hard to think Bird woulda been a Soph on Knight's undefeated Champs of '76 and as a Freshman, might have been the 2 point difference in the loss to UK after Scott May broke his arm. The only game IU lost in two years.

Prior to class basketball, The NCC was as good a HS basketball conference as any in the country. The D1 talent they turned out annually was hard to match.

Yeah Bird played in relative obscurity in Springs Valley.

Washington’s 69 team was the best ever. Gary Tolleston almost spoiled their perfect season in the CG.

I’d have loved to have seen that early ‘70s East Chicago Washington team with Junior Bridgeman, Pete Trgovich, et al vs. Indpls. Washington. I think they might have come out on top.

I went to the the ECW/ECR games with my Dad both years... my Dad worked in East Chicago and took me around to various games as he was a hoops junkie and played at Gary Emerson

That East Chicago team also had Tim Stoddard who played in college (NC St?) and went on to pitch in MLB. Both guards also played on major college teams as well. Quite a team. And the other team in East Chicago was very good as well.

Not really that much of a hoops hotbed any more but someone who still lives up there might have a better view than I.

Maybe but Washington is considered the best by most. Washington had George McGinnis and Steve Downing. McGinnis was an All Star in the ABA and NBA. IIRC Downing also played pro though not as long as long.

In the 69 regional championship, Warren Central played Washington. We started a couple of 6’9” guys and had just beaten state ranked Cathedral to win the sectional. We thought we had a shot after getting rolled by 45 early in the season. It was 35-0 before we scored our first points. Lol
