IIRC Parker didn't even call plays at West Virginia.

Promoting Parker prolly ends up alienating DMC as well.

Hard pass on Parker. That would be a BK type move. MF has got to be better than that. Be a dog and chase after a 5 star OC.

"earmark" = Money will not be an issue in resigning Tommy... Meaning, MFMF wanted the split and ND knew it was going in a different direction before Tommy won the Bama Powerball on it's 5th drawing. They knew they weren't gonna have to pay him so they did a save face to appear like big spenders.

(In my best Maury voice) The next OC at ND is NOT the highest paid OC in college football.

I know there's some humor in what you're saying, but I tend to agree with you. I don't think they ever intended to pay $3M for an OC, even if it was Jesus Christ himself. I'm just worried they won't open the coffers at all and instead of taking advantage of a prime opportunity to upgrade the position, they're instead going to seriously limit the pool with which they have to choose from. A lot of folks on this board seem to think MF is walking around with a blank check. I doubt it.

People bag Parker a lot considering he turned Mayer from great to ferking great.
Did he tho? Unless there's evidence that he worked with him exclusively all offseason I would say it was just Mayers own progression.

It may not be a blank check but it will certainly be a competitive salary. ND stepped up to the plate to get Freeman, and they stepped up to retain Rees after 2021. I am confident that Freeman will be able to get his top target OC.

I know they ponied up to keep Rees last year, but do we know what Freeman is making? I would assume, being a 1st time (and arguably risky) hire, they'd have been able to get him at a discount on his 1st contract.

Take it FWIW, from last offseason https://footballscoop.com/news/notre-dame-lsu-brian-kelly-marcus-freeman-college-football
"The market this cycle, as evidenced by the deals secured for Billy Napier to take over at the University of Florida and Brent Venables to do the same at Oklahoma, was set around $7 million for young, new, power-program leaders; Freeman’s pact with Notre Dame, per sources with knowledge, rests comfortably in that median range."

They paid Weis about $20 million to go away. I’m guessing Freeman gets about $6 mil and about $4 mil between the coordinators.

What does Jesus need with $3MM? He should be willing to take a discount.

Quite the accomplishment. Not only did he find both of these guys down the clearance aisle but they were a QB and RB when he brought them to Cincy
I’m so confused. I feel like I’m reading Circa’s posts tonight with your comments. Please put me out of my misery in plain english? 😂

I don’t understand why ND doesn’t pay coaches the most.
Like I understand Saban, Kirby, Dabo should be on the top dollar so that means they are paying most.
But ND shouldn’t get beat out for the guy they want because of $. It’s a sign of lack of ambition from the school.

I was under the impression that both Freeman in 2021 and then Rees last season were among the highest paid coordinators in the sport. Maybe not absolute top of the market, but top five or thereabouts, and surely more than most of the rumored top candidates make in their current jobs. I doubt money will be an issue for an OC hire.

What are we thinking boys? Over/under in days until the candidate is decided. And not the official announcement because the vetting takes forever. When will we know who the guy is? I'll set the line at 12 days.

I’ll take the under because 12 days to me would mean it’s Brian Johnson and I don’t think it’s gonna be him.

12 days could just mean they want to wait at least until they're able to interview him.

I'm pretty sure Irish4life was referring to when ND hired Freeman as DC. We beat out LSU to get him. We also beat GA and FL to get Al Washington.

ND has been opening the checkbook. I'm not sure why a lot of fans continue to think that we are always getting outbid for coaching talent.

This is a really funny statement. Tommy underachieved so bad that the greatest college football coach ever tabbed him to be his OC at a top two college football program
Simply being hired by Saban doesn't make Rees a great coach. Pete Golding and Bill O'Brien were hated by Bama fans because they were bad coaches who wasted talent. Rees is lot like Lane Kiffin who got coaching jobs he didn't deserve early in his career based on nepotism.

Nepotism gets your foot in the door. Doing your job well leads to interest from Miami, LSU, and Bama, not nepotism. Tommy certainly didn't waste talent at ND, if anything he got more of less when you look at the QBs we had.

I don’t care who took him off our hands at least he’s gone! I love how He told the players at the end of last season in the Gug that he was staying to win titles at his alma mater Notre Dame …. and that proved out to be for just one season.

He is no more of an opportunist then Brian Kelly just not as good of a coach.

Welcome aboard the Ludwig train gents. This has the Elko feel to me when I first mentioned him, but all the talk was on others. Very good coordinator flying a little under the radar because of where they're at.

Saw somewhere (the athletic I think) that Moorhead is making 450k at Akron. So we can quadruple that easily. I’d suggest if he “wants to be a head coach” in 2025 being OC at ND is a better path than HC at Akron

Because some want to think that there’s some force at the university holding the program back from winning. It’s literally only NIL that ND is slightly behind in. I guess facilities too.

I really hope it’s this week. Moorhead and Ludwig seem to be the names that get brought up the most. I’d be happy with both.
