I think this is going to be a real problem for ND moving forward. Kids using their commitment as leverage to try and boost an NIL deal with another school.

It’s a tough spot to be in as a coach, but I am confident that Freeman will refine his skills at being lead recruiter in a circus of anything but integrity. It’s already a shady enterprise in that every team including ND actively seeks to overturn commitments in order to acquire athletes. This game-playing shit is part of the deal, but partnered with improved classes/athletes and improved play, it’s Freeman’s job to make it real stupid to turn down Notre Dame. Once enough teams get scammed and the lack of returns on investment screw over a lot of schools, NIL is not going to be like this. As it stands now, kids are prospectors in the gold rush, but once the dust settles, ND needs to be anything but fool’s gold. (1) Get the best athletes who want to be here for football first, and school second but with genuine consideration (2) Win and win. Exceptional education is still an ace that distinguishes ND in the thick of all this. I can’t remember who said Prime has more charisma than Freeman, but it’s really the difference between the con and the character. Freeman has to will character into dominance. Not an easy task.
I think you’re giving these institutions too much credit. Look at all the shitty coaches that continuously get large contracts and extensions based on not much of anything.

College football has become a huge slush fund for mediocre coaches nation wide.

Bowen is a top 20 national player. He doesn't really need that kind of leverage. And if he was all about the NIL he'd still be talking to A&M. I'm sure Oklahoma made him an offer but that feels more like "a" factor than "the" factor here.

Also him being committed to us, at this point, costs us nothing. We're not not taking other potential safeties. We just took Hillman. The only place where having a guy bail late is a major problem is QB. Oregon's got to be sweating right now. Glad we dodged that one. Bowen leaving would be too bad, but we'll be fine.

If you are trying to leverage for NIL money then using ND is a bad strategy you wanna be trying to get the likes of TAMU and Oregon fighting each other not ND a school that don’t play

Don’t think so. If that were the case the recruits would be putting like TAMU vs Tennessee to get the bidding war going.

ND is more progressive with NIL than I thought they’d be and seem to be open to be moving even more progressively forward. We’re going to lose some kids to money. Just like we always lost some kids to money. TAMU is a great example. Last year people were panicking because the aggies were buying players by the truck load. Now look at them. Everyone is jumping ship.

ND is putting a stellar recruiting class together, best in a long time. As long as those recruits translate to wins, the classes will get better. Winning will always matter most. Winning=player development which leads to the NFL

I'm curious as to how that works "legally"? Go a take BIG cash to jump on the Dumbo Fisher train, then leave town after one year! Is this just another 'grab and go' incident by some of the NIL recruits?

Lotta kids use a "like" on social media as a read-receipt. Don't think we can read too much into it since Bowen and Love also liked it. Could just be the equivalent of "Good luck, Dylan."
Nah,… don’t try and stop us from panicking because ‘the entire class is going to decommit thursday,…’

I see the off-season "reading too much into things" hasn't changed.

Signing day can't get here fast enough.

No place for logic here.
