It's hard to tell if NIL was a disaster for A&M. Obviously kids are getting the bag and leaving, but would they stay if they went 10-2 with a NY6 win?
Sorry, it was a disaster for A&M, but just because it was a disaster for them doesn't mean it would be a disaster for a team (like A&M who paid out the ass for a class) if they were successful.

Willing to bet A&M is going to win 9 to 10 win team next year with Weigmann and a more mature defense. If they made the playoff I wouldn't be surprised.

Tennessee threw away their season while in position to make the CFP because the defense was jealous of the NIL Hooker was getting (allegedly)

Next year is always the year for A&M lol. They’ve won 10 games once this century.

I think this will make A&M boosters a bit skeptical moving forward.

Wow. Just don't have a ton of faith in Fisher getting it done there. Realize he's a great recruiter but other than having Jameis Winston have not seen a lot of good teams from him. This year was far worse than expectations. I'll believe it when I see it for Texas AM being great under Fisher.

This is high school, not college, but the PIAA approved of high school kids getting NIL deals with restrictions. Can't use the school name, school nickname/mascot, or school colors. Can't promote gambling, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, etc. Will be interesting how it is actually accomplished here with high school kids.

With this NIL thread popping up it made me think. I do not know the rules, but any chance Mazi Smith gets some NIL money from Glock?

I suspect we're going to see an influx of PA kids to Miami and Oregon

I can see where they could prevent using the school name and mascot as they are state supported, but not sure how they could prevent the others. Don't get me wrong. not a good look for a kid to promote gambling, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, etc., but I could see that getting challenged.

I guess it's easy to say the kid is underaged so they can't promote it. Imagine if this were a beer, I don't think the public would have liked the commercials all that much...

The school colors thing though. We are blue and white at the school I coach. So if a kid wears a generic blue shirt, does that mean he is wearing the school colors? What if the company uses blue. Would be interesting to see how that is enforced.

And the supply is only where it is right now thanks to the COVID year in 2020. In a couple of years there will be significantly fewer upperclassmen floating around.

Since by definition these players are now considered professional and not amateur any more, what is going to prevent the NFL from poaching freshmen and sophomores.
Also, are other non football athletes such as tennis players, golfers, and Olympic athletes allowed make money by playing in professional tournaments, and still be able to participate in their school sport?? Let’s face it, this isn’t NIL money these football players are getting.

This is a NFL rule, not a college football rule.

Camel's nose is in the tent. If the athletes want it, there is no legal way to stop the professionalism of college sports
UNLESS the power schools decide to strongly unify under some universities-based agreement.

Meditating on places like the SEC, and the lack of trust between institutions my intuition says "Hah!" to that future.
(Though it's the path they SHOULD take to save things.) ND will be caught in this conundrum.

ND will never win a title unless they start playing ball with the rest of the country for NIL look at Georgia's depth chart they will return almost their entire starting defense and offense, minus Stetson and a few others. Their entire secondary depth chart is almost all Freshman and Sophmores. 3 out of the 4 LB positions have sophmore starters.

I don’t really get how the first part relates to the rest. Yes Georgia is about to return a ton of starters, that’s because they lost a ton last year.

Point is they have landed like 12 5 Star kids over the last two classes, and that's not including the kids who were borderline 5 stars. It's very rare we recruit a kid who makes an instant impact as a Freshman on defense. When's the last time we recruited a kid at DE/DL who play significant minutes as a freshman?

I wasn’t necessarily disagreeing with the basic premise of needing to accumulate more elite talent, just didn’t understand the premise of returning starters ~ NIL.

Needs to have a cap...
You can't do it without congressional action. The pro leagues surmount the anti-trust issues because they have collective bargaining with labor. This won't work for college athletes in a large number of states due to laws which prohibit public and quasi-public employees from unionizing.

Once aTm's class $$ was known last year the standard was set. 30m/class is what u better be prepared to spend to have a elite class.
But they got guys transferring out left and right now. Did they paid? Did they not get what was promised? Crazy shit.

If you don’t think Keely got paid exactly what they wanted then IDK man. Not sure what ND is doing to compete with a $40 mil football payroll
