247 has ND vs USC (South Carolina) in the Gator Bowl

I'd rather have Florida. I think South Carolina is a solid team without enough notoriety to make a win valuable. Basically a bowl game against Iowa State again.
South Carolina has been trending up as of late.

Mississippi state would mean going against Leach with time to prepare.

Neither options are easy wins.

5 OL, 4 TE, a kicker, and Buchner holding the tee.
Funny. But we're not going to have Mayer. We'll need all the weapons we can get. Some Buchner designed runs with the threat to throw downfield will give the defense something to think about.

Much rather go against Rattler and USC then Will Rogers and Mike Leach.

Won’t really matter one way or the other because the Gator Bowl won’t have an affect on recruiting.

I'd like to see us get a NAME program regardless. AND I'd like it to be one that we can beat. (That by the way rarely happens to ND because of OUR name.) Beating an SEC team does make a difference to LOTS of people. I don't want a B1G team, nor an ACC team, nor probably a Big12 team. Certain PAC-12 teams might be OK but probably not. I definitely DON'T want an up-and-comer team where winning gets you nothing and losing gets you laughed at --- (Tulane would be that, for instance.) So, FL? the other USC? MissState? Ole Miss? Ark? KY? --- beating the SEC matters psychologically. We've proved that we can beat the other conferences many times (and I just don't trust what the Big12 does game-by-game.) Could we play Texas? Some panache there. ... but I have no say, so who cares?

Would love to play someone outside of the SEC. I feel like we rarely get Big Ten or PAC12 teams in bowl games.

It will more than likely be SC in Gator Bowl. Down here in SEC country, I like the match up. And wouldn't you know it, TE's have 'field days' against the Gamecock's defense (I hope Mayer plays....but). When they played TN, I watched the game with my TN buddies and SC ran a 4-2-5 that really stifled the WR core and left the middle of the field wide-open. TN never exposed it with a TE.

Agreed, I don’t want anything to do with that guy. fuck BK, and fuck LSU. We legitimize all that bullshit by playing them.
You hate BK because he left to try to win a championship. He wasn’t going to win one here. He couldn’t recruit enough top tier talent to win it all. He has a shot with LSU because his available talent pool is so much larger.

I think Freeman has a decent shot to recruit that talent here because of his personality.

It was a long-term win-win for both. Gives ND a better shot to win, and it gives Kelly a better shot.

Also remember Kelly brought us back to a much higher level that when he came in.

I see no reason to hate Kelly. I like what he did at ND and will root for him when not playing the Irish.

Same. I think Kelly having success shows ND isn't a "bad" program but a program that limits itself and overachieves despite playing by self-imposed limits/rules. Maybe ND will get a football fan in the administration one day that sees this and makes some changes, until then we cry about winning 8 games and celebrate when we win 10.

I think we go to the holiday bowl and play a Pac12 team.

Side note the holiday bowl is played on my birthday so I’m kinda rooting for that

Warm weather and somewhere with decent flights is all I want. LSU would be fun, except the fans are awful.

Give me a ranked win against the Tier 2 SEC teams. That's a good building block for next year. Both South Carolina and Miss St could be challenging games depending on who we have sitting out/injured, but I think both are winnable if our guys show up.

Citrus Bowl folks seem to be onboard... It should be a fun game for Clemson to watch.

I disagree to an extent. MF is showing you can get better guys. BK thought it was beneath his lofty perch as CEO to do some real recruiting.
