Wow! Getting caught up on this thread and haven’t witnessed a rant/attack in over 10 years but then again I don’t wander into the other threads on this site beyond the football thread.

I would think only a drunk relative of Pynes would get on here to defend him and his play in our last three games and our two embarrassing losses. The fact that he didn’t lose these games due to miss thrown balls or tipped passes is a lucky break. I’ve never seen the board calling for anyone under center besides him like I’ve seen it this year. We have won in spite of him being back there. Every team we have played hs started a better QB than we have and that include UNLV and their backups. How well would Stanford be if drew Oyne were back there?! If he were we would have shit out Stanford. In the last three games he has been unable to achieve 100 yards passing a game. Has he thrown a handful of good balls? Yes but he’s missed just as many with a good group of receivers and TEs and RBs while being afforded all day to throw and a solid running game. We will have a shot at a few transfer QBs that are not currently known and we will flip someone out there. If we can get Drew to continue to hand the ball off and throw a screen or two and use his feet (it’s the least he can do) and we beat USC he will be third or fourth string next year where he belongs. He has had more than enough chances to show he’s the next Doug Flutie.

He’s not. He’s a tough little guy and seems competent enough to hand the ball off and is improving in the run game. He needs to relish to starting the next 4 games because he will NEVER start again nor will he be coming off the bench. UNC was his zenith and teams have schemes for him and the Clemson game is what he is. As long as he can make a few runs and not run the ball over. Book is WAY better and so is the Stanford QB.

Apparently the joke is on you Dale, or you hit your head. It's obvious that we know more then the staff, and we know for fact that TB isn't the answer based on the 19 snaps he has taken this year. If you can't see that, then you are the problem.
19 snaps? He played the entire Ohio St game and almost the entire Marshall game, plus parts of ten games last year. Gets your facts straight or you lose credibility.

Opening Internal IE Oddsmaker Transfer Board:

- Leary +300

I haven’t actually watched or know much about him. 6’1 NJ kid sounds like when does he enroll? The book on him I think is the generic stereotype. Tough kid, sneaky athletic but not dual, good CFB arm strength but not off the charts

His arm strength is more than good enough.

Did we ever recruit MJ Morris who has been lighting it up as a freshman for NC State?

Seems like their fans want Morris to be the guy at QB next year regardless of what Leary decides.

It’s unfortunate for Leary, but to be greedy for ND, it feels like he put enough real NFL promise on his 2021 tape, but some regression in 2022, combined with unfortunately not being healthy for the Draft that he fits the come back and improve my draft stock back up perfectly.

freshman MJ Morris has been playing well for NC State since Leary got hurt. Not a 100% certainty he keeps the job. Makes sense to transfer.

If we get 2021 Leary, it’d be a slam dunk, no brainer. Unfortunately he was up and down this year so probably won’t be our top choice I’d imagine. Still a great option.

The ND version of Russ Wilson?

That was a little cryptic of Pete Sampson to include a Devin Leary film review in his podcast.

With what we have returning on offense next season, a QB like Leary would have us winning 10 games minimum.

It's pure speculation, but they do talk about why transferring would make sense for Leary.

A couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have thought there was any reason to entertain the possibility of Leary transferring. But now his younger backup has put together a couple of excellent performances in ACC play.

Torn Pecs ain't no joke. Also would probably be out for spring ball. Unfortunately, pass.

I didn't know until a moment ago that the injury is also on his throwing side. So there's also definitely a concern that it continues to affect his performance going forward.

Regarding Leary, NC State is on the schedule for next season. It could be another Coan vs Mertz match up.

If he's already had surgery and started physical therapy, he could be back by mid-February. It also depends on if it was a full tear with the muscle balling up, or if it was a partial tear and he got surgery as a precaution.

Totally agree. The last time I saw Buchner play we were losing to Marshall. I'm willing to take anybody who can compete.
I agree that we should take anyone who would compete but I'm frankly getting a little weary of the "Buchner lost to Marshall" argument.

The OL was swish cheese up to and including the Cal game. Not many transfer eligible guys we may land next year would've made much of a difference behind an OL that couldn't open up the run game and couldn't protect the QB for more than 2 seconds.

It's really not fair to completely give up on Buchner based on two starts with a team that looks vastly different, especially up front, two months later.

I don’t think most are giving up on Buchner but there are very few guys mentioned in this thread where’d I’d say oh no don’t bring him in because Buchner is clearly better. If we go into next year with Buchner, Pyne and Angeli because well Buchner is probably better than Hudson Card or Luke Altmyer and guys like that, that’s even worse of a disaster than this year in which we did the same thing. This year we at least didn’t know for sure it was the wrong move. Next year we literally have the benefit of hindsight telling us it’s the wrong move.

We’re in a fantastic spot if Buchner actually earns the job on the field over someone other than Pyne.

Like I said in my post, I agree we should bring in any QB who is willing to compete. But there are plenty of posters on this board who have written Buchner off. he is only a true Sophomore who started 2 games behind a BRUTAL OL early in the season.

I'm not comparing Buchner to these two, but Clausen and Quinn hardly had earth-shattering sophomore campaigns. Still a teenager at that stage in your CFB career.

It will be impossible to evaluate whether a transfer is better than Buchner, because no one knows what Buchner is. He has played like a game per year for the last 3 years.

His throwing motion is weird.

He has excellent speed and vision.

His arm strength seems above average but his accuracy seems below.

He may be injury prone.

He is a total wildcard. If he wins the job, awesome. But a transfer is an absolute necessity. ND just needs to sign the best available and let it shake out from there.
