If we take a grad transfer QB, does that not render the possibility that Buchner transfers? If that happens, would we then need back to back grad transfers in 2023 and 2024 or a guy that can stay 2 years? I assume that would also mean all the chips are in the grad transfer basket and also CJ Carr would need to be a home run, developed quickly by the staff, and be ready to be called upon very early in his college career. I see no situation where not landing a legitimate QB in the 2023 class is not a huge disaster. What's the scoop on Angeli in practice performance? Is he a future dog?
This is why we should not run off Buchner.
It leaves us entirely dependent on one-year-rental grad transfers and Angeli as bridges to Carr, who is probably at least two full years from being ready. (and puts enormous pressure on Carr panning out as hoped). Even if you think Angeli is good, which is an open question, we're still really thin at QB. Or we can be a little patient with the high-ceilinged four-star with three years of eligibility remaining.
It's a very fine line the staff needs to walk here, b/c we absolutely need a transfer (and probably it's a grad transfer) but you don't want to scare off Buchner either. Find a transfer who's willing to come in and compete for the job, best man wins. Who that transfer is, I dunno.
And yeah even if he's a fucking baseball player we have to take a QB in the '23 class. It's asinine that we haven't even landed a visit this season. I do not understand it.
