Stanford's defense is 126th in the country with a stop rate of 47.1%

UNC is 96th at 57.8% and BYU is 82nd at 61.8%
This is an encouraging stat, many thanks

Might be a good week to hammer the over...ND should move the ball at will, we know Stanford can score. O/U is currently 52.5...that's pretty tempting.

I think the people who want to stop playing Stanford are crazy.

ND should bury these guys at every possible opportunity to make sure they have the upper hand in any recruiting battle.

This is interesting because we still dont know what MF's blowout MO is. It's well known that BK would let his foot off the gas at times. MF has spoken like he would have no problem racking up the score... but his nice guy persona is at odds with that.

Just the fact I'm asking the question probably guarantees a 1 point nail biter.
Yeah I don't think we are going to see Blow Out Marcus too often this year. And this week could be a ridiculously "short" game in terms of # of plays. Stanford will "shorten" the game because they suck. ND will shorten the game because that's the way this team plays its best, run the ball and short passes. 10 play drives.

Take the under.

This game could be very similar to the UNC game.

My hope is the defense can figure out third and long while Tommy Rees can get more touchdowns when in the red zone. Fix those two things and this game could be a runaway with a UNC type of scoreline, perhaps better.

That's not exactly how Stanford plays...they can't stop anyone, so they have to play catch up. If we get off to a slow start, maybe, but I can't envision us not scoring on majority of our drives.

Follow the trends: in the five games Stanford has played in this year, only once has the total been under 52.5...it was 51 against Colgate. Their games have an average of 62 points/game, and Vegas is gifting bettors 9.5 here....

To add to this:

They have another dude that feels like a potential thorn in ND's side in Casey Filkins, their white-guy RB.

He is good in space, can make the first tackler miss, and has a habit of converting for Stanford in 3rd-down situations.

He had 120+ all purpose against Washington. He had 140+ all purpose against Oregon, which was a really nice game. Both teams outpaced Stanford from the gun by being efficient on offense in the first half, but Filkins is a dude that can keep the game close of his own accord if ND doesn't clean up their run-game assignments and third-down playcalling when on defense.

Between McKee and Filkins, I worry about a repeat of some of the BYU frustrations as the game wears on. ND should win because Stanford really isn't very good... but they need to clean up the defense quite a bit if they want to cover the spread, and avoid giving Stanford some of the life they've been looking for (and been close to getting).
Filkins as a potential "thorn"? Have you actually watched those games or are you just looking at the stat sheet?
Most or those yards were garbage yards. Stanford got way behind and the other teams just let them throw underneath. In the Oregon St game he had around 60 yards on 20 carries in a close game. Makes the first guy miss but before he gets any additional yardage the second guy nails him.
I think our LBs will match up well with Stanford's skill guys.

Eh.. we score way more slowly than USC and Oregon.

Not to beat a dead horse but we didnt' exactly score "slowly" against UNC, who's defense is surprisingly ranked 30 spots higher than Stanford's, which is incredible to think about.

To each their own, debate over lol

I watched the Washington game and some of the Oregon game.

He was impressive early against Washington. Stanford did a good job of getting him into space with their formations. He was moving the chains as Stanford was trying to keep pace... but they kept imploding and ruining his hard work.

Once they got behind, he was less effective (no shit).

Which leads me back to my original post... if Stanford protects the football, and if ND keeps having trouble with 3rd-down defense, he is a potential thorn in ND's side based on his ability to make a guy miss and keep the chains moving.

True, but Stanford still signs several Top 200 recruits every year. Despite the downward path they are on, there are a few, great high school players that still won't pass up a Stanford degree.

I really hope we can be successful on third and long in forcing punts. It’s truly laughable how awful we have been to date.

Stanford is down their starting LT Walter Rouse and RG Levi Rogers this weekend. Rouse is a massive loss for them as he has started 34 games and is a projected third round pick. Their replacements have a combined 1 start, with one only appearing in sub duty twice his whole career. Their starting RT, Myles Hinton, is returning from injury this game after missing the last 3. Because of medical retirements, transfers, and poor recruiting, Stanford will have 7 healthy offensive linemen.
I was just coming the post that. Foskey should eat, cut into that Sack record.

Remember Owen Marecic? That dude killed ND on both sides of the ball. Ugh.

This could be like the UNC game, or we may have Marshall on our hands again. I fully expect this game to be a nail biter.

Hope to see Angeli
Insert generic: "Oh man, we got blown out/Drew Pyne plays that poorly" joke...

I fully expect Angeli to come in for garbage time and promptly hand the ball off 3 times for a first down, and then another 3 times which will result in a stop and punt. Then Stanford will run the clock out.

They'll let him throw a shallow cross four yards short of the sticks on third down and I'll analyze it like it's the Zapruder film.

I remember Peyton Manning saying something like, "Alright, the first play of the season. You can tell how the season will go off this play... pssh that's 6-11 right there." I will see if I can find a clip.

This is akin to a QBs first pass attempt in college. We will know everything about Angeli based on that first pass.

15-second mark.

This is turning into a we should dominate from start to finish type of game and for some reason that scares me
