Didn’t Cal’s defense get smoked by Wazzu this past Sat? Honest question as I just saw the score & didn’t watch the game.

It’s college football. Every team sucks, except when they don’t. The trick is to suck less often than the other guys.

(In other words let’s not worry so much about the transitive property and just play our game. Do that and we should be able to beat BYU.)

They're 73rd in rushing yards per game and a mere 7.2 yards per game behind ND. How many teams count as one of the worst run offenses in the country?

They couldn't run at all on FCS Weber State or UNLV (or Alabama, but duh).

They ran on UConn, but...it's UConn, and they were able to run on BYU. Reality is that those 2 games prop up their ranking fairly heavily. Key difference is that ND has shown they are coming out of a rut and are on an upward trajectory with the known talent up front starting to play up to their potential that they are known to be capable of.

Funny that BYU fans are questioning their schemes. I saw a defense that doesn’t have the talent to run aggressive schemes. Decent talent but nothing a good offense can’t move on. So they play conservative and win shootouts.
At least vs non power teams.

I remember him having a big day but not to this magnitude. 6 touchdowns and 467 yards passing?! Sheesh. Maurice Stovall with 14 catches, 207 yards, and 4 touchdowns. Asaph Shwapp as the leading rusher with 27 yards.

Yep. Defense and Left Tackle (Paul Duncan) were the most glaring weak spots on that team.

And Rhema McKnight. I feel like he always gets overlooked in ND lore due to the great ones Samardzija and Stovall, but he was damn good, especially in 2006. He got hurt early in '05

Both of them are good players. Neither are better than the 3rd, maybe the 4th option at OSU or North Carolina. DBs just need to continue to trend the way they have been.
