You know, I just don't understand.
Nobody thought Corey Robinson would amount to anything until he showed him his freshman year. He consistently showed a superior work ethic. The kid has more heart than almost anyone I have met. He made a very rational decision to retire from the game. One I would have made if I were in his shoes. His play was beyond question. People have started the work ethic thing since he hung up his cleats. Most of the people that opt for it forget he caught the ball with broken finger(s)/ hand for a season. And have no idea of the severity of injuries he fought through beyond the concussions.
As far as Jerry Tillery, who was going to end up at LSU, anyway, Jerry was recruited as an offensive tackle. Last minute he switched to defense as he enrolled at ND, (not LSU.) He is a natural 3-tech tackle. But last year he was forced to play zero, or nose. Totally different positions. And he got banged up. Playing on the line in D1 and extra year of conditioning isn't just for the advantage of having some extra strength. It is to make a players body ready for the incredible wear and tear of the season.
In my mind, any kid who can start as a freshman and just play without blowing assignment after assignment is pretty special. So Tillery comes in and plays more as a freshman that say, Sheldon Day does. Or more than Stephon Tuitt, Aaron Lynch, and Ishaq Williams do combined, and he doesn't deserve accolades? Instead, he has an attitude problem, or a problem with his work ethic? For real?
And remember, unlike some other players, this kid isn't doing to get by on the academic side. This kid has plans to go to medical school! His course load is no joke, nor is his academic effort. Kid has a problem with his work ethic?
It didn't star with you Ray, but some people project their own experience on these kids, and it is amazing how far they miss the mark.
In my mind Robinson and Tillery are effin' stars!
