About to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time.

I'm really excited. One of the few movies in the IMDB top 100 I have not seen. Also one of the few Kubrick movies I have not seen.
How able are you to watch films without much straightforward plot? That was a struggle for me the first time.

Edit: Also, do you want film recommendations or are you just going through the list? I'm not sure if you have a goal in mind or are just trying to watch a film on the list you haven't seen.

I appreciate and understand that movie, but am not a huge fan of it. I like the novel better.

Just saw the Conjuring 2 and while it isn't as good as the first one it is still a decent horror movie.

Kubrick has long been my fav director, for all the hype 2001 is not one of my fav films of his... I enjoy it but it's not one of his films I can watch over and over.

The wife is going out of town in a few days and I have an evening set aside to watch 13 Hours. Haven't seen it yet, but I read the book and I am really looking forward to seeing the movie. My wife doesn't like "those" movies, so I usually save them for when she is gone. I have the steak in the fridge and a new bottle of Makers Mark Cask Strength ready to go. Should be a great evening.

You do realize the title of this thread is "Movies you just saw" and not "Movies I am going to watch" don't you? lol

I like movies that have artistic or thematic value, even if the plot isn't great.

I wasn't looking for recommendations in particular. I have seen almost every movie generally considered to be "great" so I was just commenting on how this is one of the few exceptions.

I saw it when it first came out, ugh! Hope you enjoy it.

I will post some thoughts on it later.

About to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time.

I kinda sorta saw it when it was first released. It was at a drive-in theater. I was on a date with Linda H. I was in 10th grade, she was in 9th – at a different school. We were in the back seat and two other teammates from our AAU swim team were in the front.

One guy had a drivers license and a car. Linda's mother agreed to let her go since she knew all three of us and felt we were good boys.

I'm pretty sure that I saw the opening credits and a few snippets of scenes along the way when we came up for air or when there were complaints from the guys up front that we were fogging the windows.

A severe case of Blue Balls ensued. Ahhh, sweet memories of youth!

I did see it a few years later at a regular theater, without Linda H and enjoyed it, as strange and at times confusing as it was.

My two favorite Kubrick films, though I've not seen them all, are Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange.

In preparation of going to see "Independence Day: Resurgence" this Friday, I'm watching the original "Independence Day" right now.

After 20 years, this movie still holds up. Some bad special effects, but also some spectacular effects as well. It bums me out that Will Smith decided not to be a part of the sequel, but I guess "Suicide Squad" was a fair tradeoff.

The Fundamentals of Caring

The Fundamentals of Caring

This movie was one of the better movies I've seen in a long time. I'm a big Paul Rudd fan and he nailed it here. It'a a funny take on care gving with some tear jerking moments. My wife is a Nurse who takes care of people like the boy in this film and it really hit home for her. Just a great movie.

Netflix Original Movie
"The Fundamentals of Caring'
Starring Paul Rudd and Selena Gomez.

Speaking of care giving, I took Squaw to 'Me before you'. Hilarious, and heart ripping. Not a dry eye in the seats.

Watched The Revenant the other night. It was okay, but after all the hype, color me a little disappointed. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.

I thought it was a little better than that, but this year seemed pretty weak compared to the year before. Spotlight and The Revenant have nothing on Birdman.

I still haven't seen Brooklyn though. I've heard amazing things about it.

I finally got around to watching the The Big Short. I work in banking, so I wasn't in a hurry to bury myself in another story from the housing crisis. But wow... I loved this film. They did a great job of showing how deep the bubble went. From government to mortgage brokers to the bankers themselves. I also loved the way they broke the 4th wall with several characters.

Just a completely unique piece that is tremendously acted by the industry's very best. 5 thunderclaps and a woolybug snap.

Watched Raising Arizona for the first time last night.

I had heard great things about how funny it was so I have to say I was a little disappointed. I generally love Coen brothers films but this one was not that funny. Fargo is a lot better IMO.

There were a couple great scenes (i.e. the chase after Nick Cage robs the convenience story wearing panty hose) but overall not that funny or entertaining.

Saw Cloverfield Lane 10 or whatever it's called, and thought it was stupid.

Saw 'The Invitation' that also has good ratings and is now free on netflix, and thought it was stupider.
