I think this entire story line about retaking the SAT's again, visiting other schools, etc etc etc. is all an intentional effort to buy time to get beyond the deadline for signing a national letter of intent.

He knows if he committed to a school before that deadline, that school would make him sign the letter of intent. I don't think he wants to sign it, thus the saga continues.
