Welcome to ND Joshua!!

Hats off to HH, he is getting stronger and stronger with each recruiting class, and I could see if becoming the next Tony Alford.

If anything, Alford should aspire to be the next HH...

Congrats to Joshua on his commitment! Kid will be a force.

Great pick up for the OL. Concur with HH comments.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the coaches have a geographic region and they recruit that region specifically. Don't the position coaches move in for the close? Seems HH is doing his job!

Good point, good question(s ?)! I am not entirely sure that I have a really good answer, maybe just more questions.

However I believe I heard that Harry has some Midwest territory including spots in Illinois (maybe) and Pennsylvania (almost assuredly) where he is really familiar with the area.

Also, I wonder if Harry hasn't become such a juggernaut, that when he locks on a kid he gets all green lights from the rest of the staff, coaching and recruiting, and just closes in for the kill. Didn't I read somewhere he only had about 5 to 7 offers out for the '16 class and has already landed Tommy, Liam, and Parker?

And hasn't it been posted before that Harry evaluates a kid, and when he offers, he turns all attention to that recruit?

Didn't one of his recruits quote him as saying, that the recruit was supposed to let him know if he was no longer interested so he could go out and find someone to replace him as a prospect?

And didn't a recruit just recently say that Harry asked for a little less time for someone who had already committed, so he could work on the next prospect he needed to bring in the door?

Hopefully someone can add a lot more to this, because I would like to have a more detailed inside view of Harry's methods. I really like to see how the top players in different fields perform.

And Harry is on my list, more so since the Mike Sanford interview came out the other day, where Mike emphasized Harry was one of the top coaches in America, not jus one of the top line coaches! (When someone with the track record of Mike Sanford goes out of his way to make that kind of acknowledgement, I will take it to the bank!)

Just noticed that Josh isn't listed with the other current 2017 commits on the sidebar. Mods, will you please change this?

We have some changes for the front page that are waiting to be made, but we cannot make them ourselves. The appropriate parties are aware and will get to it when they can, though.

If anyone wants to update the OP, ESPN has him as four stars, 182 overall, 25 OT.

Translation.............Take your pick
1. The web developer is on vacation and will fix when they get back.
2. The web developer is busy creating his own video game and can't be bothered at the moment.
3. The web developer hasn't gotten paid for the last work he did. Mods are scurrying to pool some pocket change together to send him a payment via PayPal.

Rose 196 spots up to the Overall 2017 #73 prospect in the updated Rivals 100:

"The aggressiveness and athleticism of Lugg helped him skyrocket up the rankings. This season the Notre Dame commit spent his games tossing around the competition at the line of scrimmage and down the field, helping spring his running backs for big gains."

Harry is the most important assistant coach on the roster until proven otherwise.

Remember how bad our OL has been in the past? This needs to continue for the next 20 years.

Yeh, that was weird. All the IE negativists had to do was read about the utter zoo that the Tennessee coach had created [and likewise how Harry was looking for a "family place" to settle permanently] to wipe the Tennessee BS out of the story [example: that he stunk as a recruiter]. But we're IE and without gripes we'd be only half of ourselves.

Thankfully Harry is so good that the gripes have almost stopped [but remember that many gave Harry only an A- grade this year.] ... and young Joshua will turn out to be "A quality" close to the best he can be; and probably that means being part of a pretty big growing pipeline Harry will be sending to the NFL.

Coach Kelly has the ingredients for ultra-powerhouse offenses for at least three+ more years, and maybe indefinitely, now that the QBs are here and the TEs are coming. Just give us some linebackers please....... Joshua, you know any big time LBs???

I personally still think that Wariner got better results on the field at least in run blocking, while Heistand has an edge in pass blocking. As recruiters however there's no comparison. Still waiting on this O-line to perform in short yardage situations.

Jeez.

Kelly offense=emphasis spread passing and more erect "floating feet" punch and dance blocking.

OSU offense=emphasis on old-style power root-hog football.

I wonder what the two teams spend the most time doing?

.... AND, as to our run-blocking: "casual" observation of the games indicates that many if not most run-botches have occurred due to the lack of TE blocking once Smythe went down, and the lack of a good blocking HBack once Luatua got his nicks. [note how Kelly got so desperate about this that he had to START Chase Hounshell.]

It ain't the bigs who are screwing up. But hey, it's all Harry's fault.

I understand Harry's scheme, and I know that every scheme has its positives and negatives, but considering the level of recruiting we've had in the O-line, it's troubling that 3rd and short and goal line situations have been a challenge. Not being able to convert in obvious running situations hurts drive efficiency, red zone efficiency, and makes it hard to put teams away--not coincidentally things that we've struggled with for the past few years.

Harry's done a hell of job here, but the O-line still has some work to do. An elite O-line can bully other teams when it need to, and that has yet to be a hallmark under Harry's tenure.

Your analysis is reductive. Poor conversion rates on 3rd and short aren't necessarily on the OL. Success in such situations depends on TEs and FBs doing their jobs sufficiently as well; we didn't have that this year. No matter how good your OL is, at the end of the day, there's only 5 of them; and they can only do so much against opponents who are regularly stacking the box and daring your freshman QB to beat them with his arm.
