First of all, he's not "rich". His salary may seem high to you, but it's quite possible that he won't be able to make nearly as much now in a different career. He earned the position he had, and now he is unhireable for that position. Just because he can go get a sales gig still, doesn't mean his world didn't get turned upside down. Certainly more so than some rich teenager wanting to make him a sacrificial lamb over his youthful idealism. You said that the kids situation was what was tragic, that is simply untrue. Stealing a man's career from him, one he fairly earned, is the true injustice.
It drives me crazy when people act like it's somehow fair to take things from successful people simply because they are successful. A loss is a loss, regardless.
