Bravo Coach!! Get the assistant's butt WITH authority!!

I was a young and stupid assistant BBall coach at a small college and during my first game rose out of my seat to protest a bad foul call; my head coach just grabbed me and slammed me back down with a reminder that getting a technical bench foul can cause us to lose the game. He was entirely correct and well within his purview of kicking my butt while controlling HIS team's sidelines. ... AND I admired him for it. I never did it again. And if he wanted to "fire" me [I was an unpaid volunteer coach, as this was a non-scholarship college], that would also have been appropriate.

People who don't get this are ... well, screw them.

The great thing is; had Grimes gotten an Unsportmanslike Penalty, and cost ND 15 yards, we would have heard nothing but, "It's the Head Coach's responsibility to control his staff on the sidelines. No excuse - he should be doing whatever it takes to make sure that no one on the staff shafts these kids by taking a win away from them on a stupid penalty!"

I only saw a flash...but I saw Kelly up in it.

The man is no joke...he's an old linebacker. How does the song go...ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.

I love to see a coach invested...hate to see an assistant get waxed like that...hurts his credibility some. But I guess there are rules for assistants too. Hope they kiss and make up. Both good guys.

Ugh, Eli Apple's mother does not like Brian Kelly

https://twitter.com/SurvivinAmerica

My favorite of her tweets is the "If a player ever did this he'd be called every name in the book..."

It's hard to imagine someone could be so dense and not see that those would not be the same situations AT ALL. It's not a player's job to lay his hands on a coach and get him away from a ref. There's no reason for a player to do it. It sure as hell is the job of a coach though.

I can understand the "it's not a big deal" camp but I don't see this as a positive in any way whatsoever. It's all over ESPN already. At a minimum, BK has to know the cameras are on him and needs to use better judgement.

And no, this doesn't happen all the time. Give me an example of a D1 head football coach in the last 20 years getting physical with a player or other coach.

You're wrong, it does happen all of the time. DeShaun Watson had an altercation with a NCst coach just last night. You see coaches like Saban screaming bloody murder at players every week.

It's funny how in the recap thread half the people are talking about our team being soft, but in this thread people are crying about BK giving Grimes the business. I hope some of our players start attacking their job with that brand of fearless aggression.

Also... This will be forgot in a week or two. It's not even as bad as the tirade he had a few years ago.

I saw the Watson thing, not remotely similar. And that was some assistant coach (who apologized after the game btw). Screaming is common, for sure. I have no problem with a HC screaming.

If it happens all the time then give an example. I've been thinking all morning and can't think of a single one. Woody Hayes is the only one and that was in 1978 and he got fired.

See Cacks post above.

Let's not act like what BK did was anything remotely close to what Woody did. He didn't hit Grimes. He grabbed him up by his shirt and yelled at him. Something you see all of the time in cfb.

The Watson thing was worse, imo. BK and Grimes are adults on the same team. Their coach pushed and yelled at a kid playing on the other team.

I have no problem with the Bo Pelini thing. Coaches are allowed to give some tough love to players. He didn't do anything violent.

The second picture is between two players. That does happen all the time. Not sure why you even posted that.

The first gif is two guys ARGUING about something and then it escalates. It's not a coach running over unilaterally and getting physical.

All I'm saying is that it's a bad look from BK and was totally unnecessary. He could have done 10 different things then what he did to "control the sideline."

I'm not holding it against him or anything because he is a high character guy who IMO made a mistake in judgment last night. But it was a bad look.

Are you trolling?

That guy is A) not a head coach and B) Probably got reprimanded

And if neither A or B are true he should have been fired.

Are you just doing a google image search of "sideline altercations."

Anyone got the Jim Mora sideline fight gif? Or Saban/Muschamp yelling? Or any of the other hundreds?

There was an NC State coach that shoved DeShaun Watson yesterday. No discipline. Anyone got a gif of that?

You said show me one pic of D1 coach getting physical. I provided not only two but another of players getting physical to show that on a sideline everyone wants to win and things like.this happen a lot, and many don't make it to the tv screen. You are my boy gk but I think you may want to drop this one.

Eta: Trolling you? That's a bit insulting dude.

We've given you a pretty wide range of altercations and you were the one that asked for them. So let's not act like Cack is trolling when he is giving you examples specifically in regards to the question you asked us. You demanded proof, we are trying to provide. You said altercations with coaches rarely happen, we are showing you that you're incorrect.

How are coaches yelling the same as this? It was complete lack of self control. Y'all are being huge homers. If Urban did this yesterday to Tony Alford we would be ripping him.

He apologized at least. And it wasn't remotely as violent as what BK did. Was totally inappropriate though.

Grimes, being an assistant S&C coach, was totally out of line in a close game on the road against a top 25 team.

Honestly, I can't really say I would have done anything differently if I was the head coach.

Just to be clear: you are demanding evidence that fits the following criteria:

A) Head Coach

B) "victim" is another coach or player

C) can't be the culmination of a verbal confrontation

D) did NOT lead to discipline or firing

E) was caught on video

F) fits your continuing "Anti-Brian Kelly" narrative?

Is that correct?
