Sweeeeeet!
Anybody had a chance to break down his senior film yet?
Detroit-area defensive end Khalid Kareem became the 17th commitment in the 2016 Notre Dame football class on Sunday when he offered his pledge to the Irish. Checking in at 6'4" and 260 pounds, and an early entry to boot, expect to see Kareem on the field early and often next year. The 247 Composite has him as the #194 overall player, #9 strong-side defensive end, and #6 player in Michigan.
Kareem visited Notre Dame for Junior Day back in March, and seemed to have genuine interest. Michigan and Alabama soon overtook the Irish, though; in fact, right around the time of Irish Invasion (which he didn't attend), Kareem committed to Alabama. He decommitted last week and took an official visit to Notre Dame for the USC game. Rumor had it that the trip went very well, but Kareem was in no rush to make a decision. Brian Kelly and Keith Gilmore visited Kareem earlier this week, which seems to have been the final nudge that made Kareem comfortable with committing to the Irish now.

Cohort
In addition to Notre Dame, Kareem holds offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, among others.
Worth noting that among the "others" are Duke, Harvard, Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Yale. My boy's wicked smaht.
Highlights
Kareem shows impressive burst for a guy is size, and pairs it with frightening strength. I don't know if I've ever seen so many Mortal Kombat Scorpion-style tackles ("Get over here!") on a highlight video. He handles double teams very well and plays run and pass equally well. He also has college-ready size already.
One area for improvement is tackling technique - occasionally he relies on sheer power to overwhelm a runner, tackling much too high and just bullying the ball carrier to the ground. Easy enough to work out of him with good coaching, which he'll definitely get from Keith Gilmore.
Instant Impact
Kareem may need some work on technique, but physically and athletically he's ready to contribute right now. Add to that the fact that he's an early enrollee, and that Notre Dame will not have a firmly established depth chart at defensive end next year, and it's easy to see how Kareem could be an immediate player in 2016. I'm not ready to predict he'll start right away - that's asking a lot - but I definitely think he'll be in the rotation from Day 1.
Long Term / Career
On other hand, I'd be pretty surprised if Kareem doesn't have a real shot at a starting job as a sophomore, and I definitely think he'll be able to win the job by his junior year. Kareem has all the look of a multi-year starter.
Welcome to the family, Khalid!
Apparently, neither does anyone else on the Michigan football team.
Actually I think there is more to this than just that. I agree that Rochell has been lights out but what if its deemed that he's better at 3T than say Hayes and that puts Blankenship or someone else at SDE. Just a thought but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens that way.
Same chances as Ishaq starting next year.
Rochelle has been lights out this year. Silly question IMO
Who knows? Maybe Rochell leaves for the NFL after this year

I don't think I'd ever turn down a D-Lineman no matter what his skillset is. Our depth is always bad on the line.
I just started watching. How's the competition he plays? Because he looks like a man among boys.

A back up line of Trumbetti-Hayes-Tillery-Bonner is bad depth?

The depth on paper looks ok but we all know how fast a d line can be decimated by injuries. I'm with gk, grab all the d lineman.
Don't forget Cage.

My point was about #s not quality. We don't have a lot of bodies.
Numbers are fine. As of now, assuming Jarron Jones comes back for a 5th year (which IIRC, recently he said on an interview that he would, we'll have 17 DL going into next season, with the strong possibility of adding another in Daelin Hayes... let's make it 18.
18 DL is a large number considering that maybe only 10 players will see game action on the DL.
I think you're number is high by a couple but I guess you're right. Hadn't looked at the depth chart in a while.
I would still never turn down a d-lineman lol
Anybody want to take a shot at what the starters and two deep looks like on the DL next year if we also land Hayes? I think the Younger Okwara is gonna be a stud but coaches need to red shirt him
Next year. Also, the LB jeffery from Texas I think there's a good chance we land this kid, he actually gets it!
The defensive line's issue going forward isn't so much depth as it is a lack of real impact pass-rushing/talent (especially on the ends, the interior is much more solid in my opinion).
