Worried about this game now... I feel like USC might come out with a massive chip on their shoulder ala Texas last week.

Yes, but let's not forget that we should have a chip on our shoulder after our showing last year in the Coliseum. Also, I have to think that their program is in complete disarray right now.

another wildcard in this game is, now the interim coach can call the plays (and use personnel) that he thought would have worked better that maybe Sark didnt want to call. I would fear this scenario more if it were Kiffin who just got s-canned, but its still something to be cognizant of. SC could play out like a 'wounded animal' here, so ND has to not make assumptions about their state of mind, and just put them out of their misery.

The first part of this. No excuses. Kick their ass, no excuses. This game is the lynchpin of the season now. No excuses. Did I mention no excuses?

Can't go to playoff, can't win conference. Last game on USC schedule with true meaning. They will be up to start no doubt. Put them out early and cruise through.

Yup. I'd imagine this game will be a nightmare to prepare for. I agree with most that a quick start will be the key to the game. SC's going to come out with an "us versus the world" mentality, we need to shut that down quickly.

Serious question for those in the know: Who else besides Hayes are we in position to steal from USC? I have to imagine their recruiting class is ripe for picking right now.

Thought I read that Sark turned over play calling to this guy already a game or two ago so Sark could "help with the defense"

I dunno. As somebody already suggested, if the roles were reversed and BK had been fired today under similar circumstances, I doubt many of us around here would be liking our chances on Saturday. I suspect most would be predicting an ugly outcome if our program were in disarray like their program is now.

You mean like not being able to get the plays in, weird and wacky play calls, random timeouts because personnel are not on the field.....

I keed. ;)

No matter what the circumstance, it's always bad for ND....

I think he should be fired at the end of the year even if they win out. He botched every aspect of the Sark situation. Is there any chance hes canned before the seasons over? I would think they would want to bring in a new AD to handle the coaching search asap.

Don't forget that the president and board probably had some say and participation in the hiring process so they may not be willing to pull the trigger so fast. If everything else is going okay with PH, this hiring may not be enough to get him fired. Lots of AD's have made bad coaching hires and remain on the job.

Not me. I think the team will have a lot of questions and curiosity since they won't know who their coach will be long term. Letting Sark go is better than keeping him on with a LOA.

Different situation. Bk actually runs sh!t. Sark drinks. Allegedly during games. I doubt they'll have a hard time replacing his contributions to the team.

The difference is our defense has shown weakness against the pass and they are filled with blue chippers in the passing game. BVG better earn his money this week or the Irish season could begin giving off a gangrenous odor.

If we can't get to Kessler with pressure, this has epic shootout possibilities.

Anyone know who was calling the plays when Sark was still the coach? Was it him or the OC? I'm hoping it was the OC after watching that Washington game.

They averaged like 10 yards a carry, but scored what, 14 points? That's really bad play calling. I truly expect them to run on us successfully unless there's a significant drop off to the back up center (which wasn't apparent in the Washington game).

Oddly not concerned about their passing offense. I never usually am as long as the QB cannot run. But you we can't survive giving up 5 yards a carry if they're actually going to pound the rock. Their RBs are really good, too. #23 is a bruiser and #25 is the fastest back we'll play all year.

I agree. I just don't think Sark will be a huge loss with respect to game planning/game management. ND losing Kelly under any circumstances would be a big hit to the team. You could argue it'll be a distraction for USC but it can't be any more of a distraction than knowing your coach is under the influence during practice, meetings and games. I think they come in to SB and give us everything they have.

The whole situation is just brutal for SCum. I loathe them but can't help but feel bad for their players. They deserve better than what they got.

The interim could throw a lot at ND they haven't gamed for... If he can get through to the players this week it could hurt ND, at least in this first game.

That's why I asked who was calling the plays pre-Sark week. Apparently it was him, so I don't think there will be many surprises.

he still was "under" sark, while being the playcaller. Just like BK has final say on whats being called for us, I am sure Sark got to set the game plan and veto anything he didn't like.

This guy has free reign now, and as mentioned they don't have much to lose. He won't be holding back on the play calling.
