just watched his junior year highlight.

He impresses me with his eye progressions which allows him to be in position to make a lot of plays. He is a very sure tackler. Doesn't seem to ever really bring the boom for as big as he is. He is a bit upright in his backpedal, and doesnt seem to possess great speed but is fast enough to get to his coverage zones.

Honestly, the person on the team he reminds me of most is Mathias.

His Grandmother is from South Bend and he still has a lot of family in Indiana.

This would have been over long ago if they would have offered him first, instead offering Chacho. It all worked out for DJ in the end but it was definitely strange how the staff came out of the gate with two guys who are close friends and teammates on B2G summer 7v7.

At the very least, ND is getting a tested student athlete, both on the field and in the classroom, who provides them with future flexibility positionally, He's well spoken and comes from a great Catholic school that partners with the University on programs and comes from an area where many kids go to ND. There were @ 45 freshman that were mentioned as part of the class of '18 by the ND Alumni Club of Orange Co. I bring that up because it's nice to know you aren't going across country by yourself. He'll have that support group, the team which currently includes local OC guys Max Redfield, St. Brown, the Bush brothers and Ryan Killander with the strong possibility of adding another local All American WR to the mix too. Finally, he has his family back in Indiana and being Skylar Diggins cousin can't hurt, can it?

Sounds like a great fit all the way around.

PURE SPECULATION...but Javon is def a top of the wr board for ND...i would think that coaches thought it would help keep interest in ND if we offered his teammate and buddy..which it certainly helped getting him to visit...i would also be willing to bet that they figured DJ would commit when offered and didn't need to immediately offer

No Panda, it's not pure speculation. That is the word, that's always been the word here.

I'm not saying it was a mistake, I said it was strange how it happened and how it played out.

Does it matter in the end if ND got DJ, Chacho or neither? Time will tell. I see DJ as a solid OLB by his senior year or MAYBE a SS/hybrid if he stays small enough. We'll know by his sophomore year, I think he'll pack it on.

Chacho? With Nicco on the team, his spot is taken. The one thing about him though is he's a playmaker. Peanut Tillman-esque. He seems to be the guy who's always making something happen at Boise, BYU or maybe a Fresno... that makes you say to yourself, Damn, why didn't ND recruit him???

I'm excited that the staff seems to be excited about DJ. With a healthy Drue, Asmar and DJ on board the hybrid seems to be taken care of for the rest of the decade.

Shortened version because I can't embed just that picture:

His best friend died in 2006 when they were young. Got hit by a car and DJ's parents didn't let him see him in the hospital on life support or at his funeral because they didn't want his last memories of him to be like that. He dedicated his play and commitment to him.
