For what it's worth, my wife's a physical therapist, board certified in orthopedics (I like to brag on her). She saw him walking up the tunnel and said if he can do that it's probably not a torn ACL. More likely a sprained MCL, which is a week-or-two injury, not an out-for-the-season injury. A 900-miles-away-on-TV diagnosis, for sure, but better than the alternative.

Jordy Nelson walked off the field and he's done for the year.

I don't see anything on that dude's Twitter about Folston being out for the year.

I'm hoping for the best (sprained MCL or hyperextended knee and back by Clemson) but am fearing the worst.

I dunno man... had a friend tear her ACL doing gymnastics and not even know it was torn for a week. Was able to walk fine and it only gave her trouble when she did certain things, finally got it looked at and it was torn.

I'm praying your wife is right and it's not serious, but I fear the worst.

I hope that your wife is a good TV injury assessor.

Let's pass on some.good positive vibes to Folston. He deserves better than a week 1 injury.

He's done for the year via Josh Norris on Twitter

Neg this man, spreading lies!

Norris had a tweet 3 hours ago that Folston would miss the rest of the game. Do you have an update you can cite?

From 3 Hours Ago
.Notre Dame junior RB Tarean Folston will miss the remainder of the game against Texas with a knee injury.

BGIF bringing just the facts per usual. Here's hoping it's just a small sprain at worst and he can be back by Clemson.

I'm still betting it's MCL, and I'm hoping it's not serious. I'm predicting Clemson return, but we won't know till the MRI.

I tore my ACL my senior year of HS and it wasn't discovered until I reported to fall camp as a college freshman.

Didn't see anything obvious watching it. Hope he is back soon. Sucks to be Greg Bryant right now. And it was good to see Adams and Dexter Williams play good so soon.

Based on my recent experience, probably not an ACL. I suspect meniscus.

I had my leg amputated my sophomore year and didn't know until Homecoming of my junior year.

For real though, let's just all wait until tomorrow or Tuesday, I guess, until we start playing doctor. Hopefully it's something they just wanted to be cautious by keeping him out.

Hopefully.

well that's nothing, I was born without a leg...just a small stump...I never knew it until my wife pointed it out to me

Do they let ACL tears walk off the field, or for that matter come back to the sidelines on crutches?

Isn't there other ACL involvement other than completely torn?

I like MCL involvement because the knee has some obvious stability.

I also like the possibility of a torn meniscus, because either the medial or lateral will let you know right now that there is an issue, without causing a huge stability issue.

If a piece of meniscus gets torn off and wedged just right, it is amazing how that can affect movement in the knee joint.

Also a dislocated patella, (which is a serious injury), could be an option. It could still be played on but if the articular cartilage is torn, it best be repaired before any more damage occurs.

Just spitballin'.

Here's my take:

Team therapist tested the ACL and MCL on his knee. His knee failed. Physical therapy tests are about 90% accurate so no will comment until a scan confirms.

But he and the team showed its likely a year over injury

I remember when basketball player Robbie Hummel tore his ACL (the first time), he was on crutches the rest of the game that night.

It's my understanding that even with ACL tears you can still walk on them, just not run or make lateral moves and such.

I think this is exactly right.

It is very common to be able to to walk on a torn ACL. The remaining ligaments and muscles (and that massive wrap he had on) can stabilize the knee enough for someone to walk. But it appeared to be an ACL protocol on the sidelines (according to my wife, who is an athletic trainer...she didn't see the protocol, but I told her where I saw them poking around) and he appeared to be very emotional about the result.

But, as my wife also says, the MRI is the only way you can actually confirm the injury.

ETA: My wife also refuses to make a prediction on this stuff from a few hundred miles away. I'm speculating off of what she told me.

ETA2: She now tells me that the wrap probably didn't provide any stability. It was most likely there (if it was just ACE wrap) just to hold the ice on. But the stuff about other ligaments and muscles providing stability is still true.

Pay sites starting to have updates on the twitters. Sampson and Loy.

Can't imagine they'll say much that we won't hear later today.
