Yes he could this is his jr season

Sorry let me clarify. This wouldn't be used as a "medical year". This would be a red shirt year for him. So yes he will be eligible in 2016 and 2017 due to this being a redshirt year, not a medical year.

Anyway I expected him to leave after this season. So I don't expect him to come back for the 2017 season.

No you have 5 years to play 4. This would be considered his red shirt year.

Exceptions are made for medical redshirts. There have been several players in CFB who gained a sixth year due to injury.

Does anyone think this changes things with J Brent? Someone said he was going to redshirt this year.

Disappointed with the news. Freshman will be growing up in a hurry.

I dont think so..I think he didnt even practice at RB this year and he isnt really a better option than what ND have at the position right now. I think CJ Sanders would be a nice speed back to balance the running game.

Sixth year's are only given to players who have missed two or more seasons due to injuries.

And even then, it's not granted because the NCAA is a big joke..

Case Keenum lost one season due to injury and played a sixth year.
But it was still only a fourth year of competition. A medical redshirt only justifies a sixth year if the player already had a "regular" redshirt season. You can have redshirt, medical redshirt, and four years of competition but you can't have a medical redshirt and five years of competition.

And they usually only grant it if the first redshirt season was also a medical.

Justin Brent really needs to get the RB position down, because we're not making the playoffs with two 19 year old RBs taking half of our carries IMO.

I don't know if there's enough time and reps to pick up all of the read option and pass protection nuances. His move to RB seemed fairly last minute after the emergence of ESB. I think our best hope, though admittedly not ideal, is Prosise as a true featured back.

Yeah, because no one succeeds with underclassman running backs?

Like Oregon last year with Fr. Royce Freeman, or Ohio State with Sophomore Ezekiel Ellliot, or Alabama with Soph Derrick Henry, or Florida State with Fr. Dalvin Cook?

Why not? It's not like Adams or Dexter are undersized or anything. Let Prosise take the lion's share and split duties with the frosh.. I think we'll be fine.

It sucks that Folston had this happen. I feel terrible for the kid. He does everything right, keeps under the radar and puts the team first. Just sucks.

Notre Dame making/not making the playoffs will have more to do with the defense staying healthy and Malik's consistency and health than it will with our RBs... Not that Folston isn't important, just sayin.

Yup. Even with Folston healthy, it's not like we were rolling out Leonard Fournette or an offense that requires Leonard Fournette. We need a tailback that doesn't turn the ball over and keeps Malik upright in pass protection. A few tenths of a yard per carry isn't going to destroy our season.

With the experience our Oline has, I think we can. We just have to put them in a position to succeed.

To be honest, if we can keep up the awesome OL play out there, it doesn't really matter who is running the ball as long as he takes care of the football. Besides, all 3 running back not name Folston showed that they were good to go yesterday. I thought Procise was awesome btw.

This is a big loss. Damn i thought he was just gonna be out for the game too. If you told me 3 months ago we wouldn't have either Bryant nor Folston I wouldn't have believed it.

Also, do you think CJ can handle this many carries throughout the season? He is a taller and slim than most running backs and his frame kind of worries me (ESPN has him listed at 20lbs. for some reason lol). Obviously he's a tough dude but the line is gonna have to carry the load and Adams will need to get a huge amount of reps to keep CJ healthy.

He's 6ft-.5ins, 220lbs. By comparison, Josh Adams is listed at 6-1.5, 212lbs. Prosise is plenty big enough.

Jayson smith was a hell of a running back in high school.

But he needs to stay on the defensive side of the ball exclusively.
