Again, since you apparently didn't read past your opportunity to chime in - ANOMALY, NOT THE RULE.

from espn:

As far as FSU's QB situation, Fisher said Everett Golson and Sean Maguire are still competing. No separation. Both have been just OK.

That summarizes his ND career pretty well.

I would say he had lots of games and moments where he was far better than 'OK'. Let's not forget that after 8 games last year, and ND was 7-1, he was running between 3rd and 5th in the Heisman race (depending on who you read), before the wheels completely fell off.

So I guess it depends how you define 'OK'. If you define it as the aggregate average of a mix of amazing and horrible, then I'd agree. But just for myself, I never saw him as simply OK. I saw him as a dynamic winner many times, and as awful many other times.

I wouldn't define him as OK, but I can see why some would.

I think this summarizes it a tad better.

It's a great representation of ND fans that:

Cheered and jeered a 4-6 Crist

Jeered a 23-8 Rees

Cheered and jeered 17-6 Golson

Cheered and jeered a 0-0 Kiel

I always saw Golson as a fantastic athlete, but not what you would call a QB. The consistency wasn't there, he beat teams with his leg and his arm, but for most of his career he struggled to do the little things that defined his postion. He had trouble with his progressions, he had issues with reading the edge on the option when we did in fact run it with him, and he failed to take care of the football. I still think he was our Denard Robinson. He slung the ball better than Denard, Denard was better on the run.

I was someone that always believed in Golson, even up to his final departure. He was a guy who thrived on breakdown and extending plays. He was a guy who failed to do what is required in Coach Kelly's offense. His offense is not predicated on makeshift sandlot ball. It has always been about precision and timing and that was Golson's biggest weakness.

I expect Golson to do well if he gets the nod from the Noles. It's not nearly as structured in it's offensive tenets, which will allow Golson to play as he prefers. I still wish him luck and think he was a really good, quiet guy.

But I'm glad have the thunderous Malik moving to the helm.

Just a lot of disappointment from that whole list. Crist was awful.Once he lost his starting job he lost all confidence and was useless. Rees did the maximum that his physical abilities could muster, but unfortunately as we saw that wasn't premiere level. However I respect his will-power and winning percentage. Golson had one good year that was leveraged by one of the best defenses in the country, which made our anemic offense manageable. Completely collapsed last year after the FSU a la Crist. And Kiel never played a snap for us because unfortunately Les Miles was right and he didn't have the chest for competition, so he doesnt count.

I drove up from Houston to South Bend. The whole way I listened to sports radio so I apologize ahead of time that I didn't get the name of the analysts who made this statement. But from what he said he believes Golson will be the clear starter but Fisher wants it to seem like a competition. The analysts said Fisher did the same thing before Winston became starter and eventual Heisman winner. Fisher said Winston and the other QB that transferred to Arkansas I believe (the name escapes me) were not making separation but once the season started there was no way that there was a competition between the two. That's just one analyst point of view though.

You're thinking of Winston and Coker, who transferred and still can't get a hold on the job at Bama.

As for Golson, I like the term "incredibad."

How many games before a listless Golson stares into the abyss while Jumbo is yelling at him?

Can't lie, I'll be pulling for Ev to look like an all star in an at least three loss season for the Noles.

Heard Jimbo on siruis this AM. Said QB race was very close, and this (EG starting), was the best thing for the team at this point. said the decision was hard because both were doing things right.
